What is Songs of Conquest?

Songs of Conquest is a turn-based fantasy strategy game with exploration, town building and tactical battles. You lead powerful heroes through the world of Aerbor, gather resources and assemble armies from units of different factions.

Gameplay

Each turn is split across two levels: heroes move their armies across the world map and claim resource deposits, while towns provide new units, buildings and economic benefits. New routes also open up new points of attack.

Before a battle, you should consider army size, available essences and terrain. Combat runs turn by turn on its own battlefield, where height differences and chokepoints can matter just as much as a unit's strength.

Four story campaigns

The base game includes four campaigns that shed light on different sides of the conflict in Aerbor. The missions link strategic goals to the history of each faction and use narrative cutscenes and music.

If you want to play independently of the story, you can turn to standalone conquest maps and battles against the AI.

Arleon, Rana, Loth and Barya

Arleon relies on knights and traditional armies, Rana on the creatures and warriors of the swamps, and Loth on necromancy and undead legions. Barya marches into battle with mercenaries, trade and gunpowder weapons.

The factions differ in more than looks. Their units produce different magical essences, so troop composition and spell choice are directly linked.

Magic from essences

Heroes cast their spells using essences provided by the units they carry. Which troops you combine in an army also determines the magic effects available to you.

The best combinations don't come from the strongest individual fighters alone: units, magic and positioning have to work together. This makes army composition a distinct part of the tactics.

Treasures, artifacts and changing maps

The adventure map holds resource deposits, hidden treasures, enemy troops and powerful artifacts. Discovering new areas affects both your economic growth and your next military decision.

Besides handcrafted scenarios, randomly generated maps are playable. This changes the conditions for exploration, expansion and territory control from match to match.

Build towns and supply armies

Towns produce the resources for buildings, research and recruitment. Which upgrades you choose determines which troops you can deploy faster or in greater numbers.

Good management is the foundation of successful campaigns: a hero without the right reinforcements can quickly lose an advantage on the map.
