Gameplay

The single-player campaign takes you through various areas of Bikini Bottom. Along the way you need to take out robots, master platforming sections, solve puzzles and collect Golden Spatulas. Certain sections can only be completed with the abilities of a matching character.

SpongeBob uses bubbles and a bungee jump, Sandy can swing and glide with her lasso. Patrick rounds out the trio with his own actions. Switching characters is one of the key puzzles in the levels.

Co-op: Two players, but not in the story

The horde mode lets two people fight together against several waves of robots. It works on PC and the original consoles, locally on one device or online. The multiplayer arena consists of 26 islands and offers seven selectable characters, including Mr. Krabs, Gary and Thaddeus.

The main story campaign, by contrast, remains a single-player adventure. If you want to experience the story together, don't confuse the separate horde mode with a co-op campaign.

What is the difference between iOS and Android?

The iPhone, iPad and Android versions were released on Jan 21, 2021. HandyGames adapted the controls for touchscreens and also supports gamepads. It is a standalone mobile port, not a stream of the PC version.

On mobile devices, the focus is on the single-player campaign. The two-player horde mode of the PC and console versions is not included there.
