What is The Jackbox Party Pack 12?

The Jackbox Party Pack 12 bundles five newly developed party games from Jackbox Games. On one main screen, tasks and results come together, while the group submits answers, texts and pictures via smartphones or other browser devices. Participants do not need an additional game copy. The collection combines short word associations, debates, greeting cards, a team knowledge quiz and photo editing. Rather than playing through a fixed story, the group switches between standalone rounds. The games are designed for two to eight active participants, though the minimum group size may differ for some modes.

Platforms

Jackbox Games lists PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Apple TV, iPad and Mac App Store for the launch. Steam offers Windows, macOS and Linux. The PlayStation Blog additionally confirms a PS4 version; the Microsoft Store also lists Xbox One. Smartphones and other browser-enabled devices serve as input devices.

Nintendo Switch 2: In the first announcement on May 6, 2026, Jackbox explicitly listed both Switch and Switch 2. The newer platform list from October 15, however, mentions only Nintendo Switch. Nintendo's current store lists a Switch version with stated Switch 2 compatibility, but no separately listed native Switch 2 version. Whether a dedicated Switch 2 version will follow is therefore open. Until verifiable product evidence exists, no native Switch 2 release is considered confirmed.

Gameplay

One person starts Party Pack 12 on the main device and shares its screen with the group. Others open jackbox.tv in their browser and enter the room code shown on the main screen. Answers are prepared on the private input device, while the main screen runs the round and shows the results. According to the developer, no installation on smartphones is required. The games suit a group in the same room. Remote participants can also take part, provided they can see and hear the main screen and enter the room code. The number of active participants varies depending on the mode chosen. A smartphone thus replaces a classic input controller, not the actual host of the game.

The five new party games

We Forgot a Card lets players design quirky greeting cards. The combination of pictures and self-made captions matters more here than factual knowledge. MegaPals builds on spontaneous word associations: those who think alike find matching words more often. In Debate and Switch, participants take positions on unusual topics and try to convince their group. Idol Factions is the cooperative counterpart. Two teams sort terms into different knowledge categories under time pressure and have to coordinate. Hyperface turns smartphones into image tools. Selfies or existing photos are distorted, painted over and adapted to absurdly worded situations. These are five standalone game ideas, not five sequels to older Jackbox minis.

Groups, spectators and online participation

The mini-games are designed for two to eight active players, though some games only make sense or are playable with a larger group. On Nintendo Switch, an expanded spectator capacity of up to 10,000 people is listed. Only the host needs the actual Party Pack. Other players join the session using a smartphone, tablet or other browser-enabled device. An internet connection is required for this. For split groups, the game screen must also be streamed so that everyone can follow the questions and results. The shared screen and browser features should not be equated with an explicitly announced matchmaking system for unknown players.

Languages: The games are in English

Steam lists only English for the interface, voice and subtitles. Nintendo's current product page also lists American English as the supported language. A German-translated product description on the Xbox Store does not mean that questions, prompts and moderation in the game itself are localized. This is especially relevant for Party Pack 12: several of its new games require spontaneous words, punchlines or debates. For German-speaking groups, the language barrier may therefore matter more than the technical requirements.

Settings and accessibility

Jackbox lists language filters as well as settings for streaming and accessibility. Which of these are available in individual mini-games can vary. Joining via browser makes rounds easier without extra classic controllers, but requires a smartphone or other internet-enabled device. Detailed information on subtitles, contrast modes and assistive features cannot be confirmed across the board for all five games.
