Gameplay

Each mission begins with exploring the operation area and selecting suitable agents. As long as your group remains undetected, you move them in real time to avoid guards or take out individual enemies. Once open combat begins, you switch to a turn-based system and position your characters behind cover.

The combination of preparation and combat determines how many resources and risks a mission involves.

DLCs and expansions

The agent DLC Nocturne adds a specialist to the squad who uses electricity and deals shock damage. Isaac is available as a free additional agent. He uses a light machine gun and risks overheating with sustained fire.

A digital art book and the original soundtrack were also released. These are standalone add-on products and should not be confused with the main game.

Sneaking and isolating enemies

Before the first shot, you can watch patrols, look for routes through enemy territory and deliberately take enemies out of the way. Some agents are especially suited to covert attacks, others to deception or direct confrontation. Taking out a dangerous enemy before combat begins changes the starting position for the fight that follows.

Turn-based tactics with individual abilities

In combat, you use cover, terrain and the special actions of your agents. Firearms, melee attacks and unusual abilities open up different tactics. High positions, lines of sight and team formation can decide how an encounter ends. Up to four agents can be assembled for a mission.

Outsiders instead of ordinary soldiers

The recruitable characters have their own backstories, traits and abilities. You don't field interchangeable units, but combine different personalities into a squad. Some specialists can control enemies, others rely on ranged attacks or powerful melee abilities. New recruits expand your options without making existing agents redundant.

Hunting the Exiled Court

The Exiled Court pursues its goals in a world reminiscent of 1930s adventure novels and spy stories. Your group travels between harbors, cities, deserts and jungles to foil the enemy's plans. The overarching campaign links individual missions with decisions on the world map.

World map, expeditions and time pressure

Between missions, you decide which leads your agents follow. Expeditions can yield information, equipment or new allies. Meanwhile, the Exiled Court keeps developing its own plans. It is therefore worth looking beyond the next mission to the long-term consequences for the campaign.

Equipment and character development

Successful missions earn you resources to upgrade skills, weapons and other equipment. Each agent develops according to their role in the team. Injuries and stress can put additional strain on a squad. Planning therefore also includes deciding which specialists to send on a tough mission and who can recover.

Locations and dynamic maps

Missions take you from harbor facilities through desert areas to remote jungle regions. During exploration, watch for cover, resources and safe approaches. Dynamic maps make sure different missions don't always follow the same course. The mix of covert approach and open combat shapes all locations.
