The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is an action adventure from Nintendo in which Link explores Hyrule, threatened by a dark twilight. In the Shadow Realm he transforms into a wolf and works with Midna to move between the worlds of light and shadow.

In Germany, Twilight Princess came out on December 8, 2006 for Wii and on December 15, 2006 for Nintendo GameCube. On March 4, 2016, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD followed as a separate Wii U remake with HD graphics, reworked controls, gameplay adjustments and amiibo support.

The original was released natively for Wii and Nintendo GameCube. The Wii version uses the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, while the GameCube version relies on classic controller controls. Twilight Princess HD is a separate Wii U remake. An official native PC version from Nintendo does not exist.

Twilight Princess combines exploring Hyrule with classic Zelda dungeons, puzzles, items and boss battles. Link fights with sword and bow, uses new tools and also takes to horseback on Epona for mounted combat. Dungeons link new items with environmental puzzles and enemy mechanics.

In the Twilight Realm, Link takes on wolf form. This changes exploration: Wolf Link can use different abilities and works closely with Midna's magic. Switching between human and animal form is one of the defining systems of the game and is closely tied to the story of the Shadow Realm.

Twilight Princess HD reworked the adventure for Wii U in 2016. Nintendo highlighted the higher image quality, optimized controls, Hero Mode, the Ghost Lantern and amiibo support. The HD version remains a separate Wii U remake and does not replace the original Wii and GameCube releases in the platform history.

Dusklight is an independent, reverse-engineered reimplementation of Twilight Princess and not an official Nintendo PC version. The project does not ship copyrighted game files: using it requires your own dump of a supported original version.

Version 2.0 also turns Dusklight into a comprehensive modding platform. New features include .dusk mod packages, a built-in mod browser with installation and updates, runtime management for mods, and a built-in randomizer. The modding system supports asset replacements, native C++ mods, Luau scripts, custom game modes, new actors, stage changes, dialogue and other interventions. Dusklight supports Windows, macOS, Linux and mobile builds for iOS and Android.
