What is Trine 2?

Trine 2 is a fantasy adventure by Frozenbyte with puzzles, fights and side-view skill sections. The three heroes Amadeus, Pontius and Zoya travel through fairytale landscapes, castles and ruins. Their abilities complement each other and open up different routes through the levels.

Trine 2 was released for PC on Dec 7, 2011. Later, separate versions followed for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, PlayStation 4, Android, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One. The Complete Story, introduced in 2013, combines the main game with the Goblin Menace expansion.

Trine 2 was released natively for PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, PlayStation 4, Android, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One. The Android version was originally aimed at NVIDIA SHIELD devices. On modern consoles, an older version may run through backward compatibility features, without this creating a separate PS5 or Switch 2 version.

Gameplay

The focus is on side-view levels with switches, moving platforms, enemies and physics-based obstacles. Water, fire, gravity and movable objects are part of many tasks. Often, more than one solution leads to the goal.

DLCs and expansions

Goblin Menace adds six extra levels and six new abilities to Trine 2. The campaign takes the three heroes through new environments with goblins, dangers and puzzles. The additional abilities can also be used in the original campaign.

Amadeus, Pontius and Zoya

Amadeus is a wizard who conjures and moves objects. Pontius protects the group with a shield and melee weapons, while Zoya uses a bow and grappling hook to reach distant targets. In single player, you switch between the characters to combine their abilities.

Physics puzzles and environments

Crates and other movable objects can form bridges, trigger mechanisms or serve as cover. Puzzles often combine several elements such as liquids, levers, chasms and magic. Skill sections and fights interrupt the puzzle challenges.

Co-op play

Trine 2 supports local and online co-op with up to three players. Together, players can coordinate their heroes, for example a wizard builds a bridge, the knight fends off enemies and the thief reaches higher switches. Availability of some online features depends on the platform used.

What's included in Complete Story?

Trine 2: Complete Story combines the original campaign with Goblin Menace and the additional level Dwarven Caverns. The package was introduced in 2013 and is the basis of several later console releases. It is not a standalone sequel.

Abilities and collectibles

While exploring, experience points are collected, which unlock new abilities for the three heroes. This expands their options in combat and puzzles. Fully explored levels hold additional hidden items.
