What is White Day: A Labyrinth Named School?
White Day: A Labyrinth Named School is a Korean survival horror game told from a first-person perspective. In Yeondu High School, locked up at night, student Lee Hee-min must evade janitors and ghosts, explore rooms and solve puzzles. He has no weapons, so sneaking and hiding are essential.
This release is the reworked version of the horror game originally released in 2001. It came out for PC and PlayStation 4 in 2017 and received new console versions in 2022. The later White Day 2 is a standalone title.

Release
The remaster available on Steam was released for Windows on Aug 22, 2017. For the native PS4 version, the UK PlayStation Store lists Aug 24, 2017. Both release dates refer to the modern version of the Korean horror game first launched in 2001, not the original software.
Publisher PQube announced the later native versions for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch on Sept 8, 2022. Some regional PlayStation and Xbox stores list Sept 7. For the German Switch version, Nintendo confirms Sept 8.

Platforms
The remaster has released native versions for PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The PS5 version is its own PlayStation Store entry, not just the PS4 game via backward compatibility. Microsoft explicitly names both Xbox console generations as well as optimisation for Series X|S and Smart Delivery.
The Nintendo version was released as a Switch game and supports handheld, tabletop and TV modes. Accessing this software on a later console does not automatically mean a separate native Switch 2 release.

Gameplay
On the eve of Korean White Day, Lee Hee-min sneaks into Yeondu High School to deliver a gift. After the school building locks him in, he must find a way out and clues to his dark past. Dangerous janitors patrol the hallways, and he also encounters the ghosts of former residents.
The student is unarmed. Light, noise, escape routes and safe hiding spots are therefore more important than offensive abilities. The game combines these chases with exploration and classic inventory puzzles.

DLCs and expansions
For the PC version, Steam offers numerous separate outfit add-ons, including alternative school uniforms. This content changes how the characters look, not the core stealth and puzzle mechanics.
Publisher PQube states that the 2022 releases on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series include more than 30 bonus outfits. Buyers should therefore check whether they are looking at the older PC version with optional packs or one of the newer console versions.

System requirements
For the Windows version, Steam lists the minimum hardware as Intel Core E8400, 4 GB RAM, GeForce GTS 250 or Radeon HD 5750 and 10 GB storage. Recommended are Intel Core i5-2300, 8 GB RAM and GeForce GTX 650. The store listings state DirectX 9.0c and a 64-bit environment.
The operating system list comes from the original PC release. It is not the same as the current minimum requirements of the Steam client.
The details apply to PC (Windows, 64 Bit).

Puzzles and scarce resources
Many rooms of Yeondu High School only open up once you have found keys and clues, used objects and understood how the spaces connect. According to the publisher, some puzzle solutions change between playthroughs: if you only memorise the number combination you found once, you may fail on your next attempt.
The structure remains true to classic survival horror. Your inventory must be managed, healing items are limited, and even saving is tied to resources. This means even a short exploration of an unknown hallway carries weight.

Choices and different endings
The story is not fully linear. Along the way, Hee-min meets other trapped students, whose trust, safety and fate can depend on dialogue and actions. The newer console product pages speak of ten possible endings.
The choices therefore have a long-term purpose: further playthroughs reveal not only hidden rooms or encounters, but also other branches of the story. The exact number of endings is given differently in older and newer store texts; here the newer publisher figure applies.

Difficulty and dynamic haunting events
White Day changes its threat level depending on the difficulty. An easier mode puts more emphasis on the story; higher levels make the janitors and ghosts more aggressive. For the especially hard variants, PQube even describes a time limit.
Hidden ghost stories give the encounters a narrative background. The publisher names roughly twenty different ghosts in total. The horror design relies mainly on uncertainty in the cramped school building, rather than equipping the player with a large selection of weapons.

Languages and number of players
The Steam version offers German menus and subtitles, but no German voice acting. Voice options include English and Korean, among others. German on-screen text is also listed for Nintendo Switch.
White Day is a single-player adventure. The official stores do not list a multiplayer campaign or cooperative online modes as part of the game.

Origin and studios involved
The modern White Day version was developed by SONNORI Corp. PQube is listed as the publisher of the Western release, while Steam additionally names SONNORI as publisher. The starting point was the Korean horror game of the same name from 2001.
For the reinterpretation, the graphics and sound were reworked, ghosts were redesigned, and Yoo Ji-min was added as another playable character. The technical and content changes make this version a remake rather than an unchanged original PC release.

Mobile releases and Crunchyroll version
The current console and PC version also has a mobile prehistory. The remake was first offered on smartphones under the name The School: White Day. The names and release models of these mobile products should not be confused with the PC store item.
Currently, Apple and Google each offer a separate Crunchyroll: White Day app for iOS and Android respectively. It is the same school horror adventure, but there it can only be played with a suitable Crunchyroll membership. This is a different way of obtaining it than a regular Steam or console purchase. A precise first release date for these Crunchyroll apps is deliberately not stated here, as there is not enough clear official information.
