Gameplay

The combat system relies on precise deflection of enemy attacks. Successful Deflects boost your own Spirit and weaken enemies. This opens up chances for powerful Fatal Strikes. Various melee weapons, Martial Arts and magic from the five elements allow different playstyles.

The campaign runs through winding battlefields with enemy groups, bosses and optional paths. Battle Flags and Marking Flags serve as navigation and improve protection against morale loss after defeats.

Spirit, morale and flags

The Spirit value changes through hits, successful deflects and the use of special abilities. If you push the enemy's gauge to its limit, you can perform a particularly powerful Fatal Strike. Spirit is therefore both an offensive resource and a defensive risk.

At the start of each battlefield, your morale rank is low. Defeating enemies raises it. Battle Flags and Marking Flags improve your fortification rank, which protects your morale value after a death. Exploring areas thoroughly gives you better preparation for tough encounters.

Five Elements and character development

When leveling up, you can distribute points into Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. These stats affect health, Spirit gain, equipment load, stealth movement and spell costs, among others. A custom build comes from this distribution, your equipped weapons and suitable spells.

Genuine Qi is used for leveling up. Changes to playstyle come from the combination of gear, Martial Arts and abilities of the five elements.

Online co-op and invasions

Main missions can be played online together with up to three players. The manual also describes invasions, in which other players can appear as additional enemies. Players going solo can ask AI allies for support during missions.

The native Switch 2 version also supports local communication. Online co-op follows the existing battlefields and is not a standalone campaign.
