What is Yakuza Kiwami?

Yakuza Kiwami is an action-adventure about former yakuza Kazuma Kiryu and a emerging power vacuum in Tokyo's underworld. After ten years in prison, Kiryu returns to Kamurocho and gets drawn into the search for ten billion yen that has vanished from the Tojo Clan's coffers.

The game combines a told crime story with freely explorable streets, fights and numerous side activities. Kiwami is a remake of the first Yakuza, not its sequel.

Gameplay

In Kamurocho, Kazuma Kiryu switches between an ongoing criminal plot and spontaneous confrontations on the street. Along with punches and kicks, he can use objects from the environment as weapons.

Battles play out in real time. Away from them, you can enter shops, complete side quests and try out various leisure activities. Exploration stays focused on the densely built district and does not rely on a huge open map.

Four fighting styles for different enemies

Kiryu switches between the Brawler, Rush, Beast and Dragon fighting styles. Brawler is versatile, Rush focuses on speed, Beast on strength and objects from the environment. The Dragon style represents Kiryu's own fighting technique.

Switching during fights makes it possible to tackle fast enemies differently from large groups.

The streets and shops of Kamurocho

Kamurocho is a dense entertainment district with bars, restaurants, arcades and narrow streets. Between the chapters of the main story, Kiryu can explore the district freely.

The city is smaller than a typical open world. Its density and the many side activities make repeated routes feel different.
