What is Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA?

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA is an action RPG about exploring a mysterious island and rescuing its shipwreck survivors. After a shipwreck, Adol Christin is stranded on Seiren. Together with other survivors, he builds a village, explores ruins and fights dangerous creatures.

In dreams, Adol encounters the mysterious Dana. Her story takes place in a different time and leads to the mystery surrounding the island's past.

Ys VIII was first released in Japan on July 21, 2016 for PlayStation Vita. The PlayStation 4 version followed there on May 25, 2017. The Windows version came out on Steam on April 16, 2018, and the Nintendo Switch version launched in Europe on June 29, 2018.

The native PlayStation 5 version came out in November 2022. A new Nintendo Switch 2 edition launches on Feb 25, 2027.

Ys VIII has been released for PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch 2 version announced for February 2027 is a standalone port.

Language selection depends on the edition. On Steam, English, French and Japanese on-screen text is available. German on-screen text is not included.

The village of the shipwrecked

Rescued passengers join Adol's village and offer various services there. The camp is the meeting point between expeditions. Whoever finds more people expands the community and improves the options for exploring the island.

The Nintendo Switch 2 version

Ys VIII launches natively on Nintendo Switch 2 on Feb 25, 2027. NIS America announces a frame rate of up to 120 frames per second and GameShare co-op for two players.

For the first time, the adventure is also set to receive Spanish on-screen text. The new multiplayer mode has been explicitly announced for this version.

Coastlines, dense forests and ancient ruins alternate on Seiren. Adol searches for shipwreck survivors, collects materials and opens up new paths. The search for survivors is tied to exploration.

Beyond the main story, there are side quests and fishing opportunities.

Play together

The Steam version of Ys VIII supports local co-op and Remote Play Together. Playing together on PC works through the functions supported by Steam.
