Zombie Army 4: Dead War

Zombie Army 4: Dead War is a third-person shooter by Rebellion in which a small resistance group fights supernatural armies. Precise shots, large enemy waves and upgrading weapons shape the gameplay. The story can be played alone or together.

Released on February 4, 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It followed on Steam on February 18, 2021. The Nintendo Switch version was released on April 26, 2022 and includes additional content from the first Season Pass.

Zombie Army 4 has been released for PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. The PS4 and Xbox One versions also run on the following console generations and were technically improved there. This is not a separate release for PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.

A Stadia version was also offered. Since the end of the cloud service, it can no longer be played.

The shooter combines targeted shooting with the constant pressure of large zombie groups. Position, distance and ammo are crucial when several enemy types attack at once. Alongside rifles and other firearms, traps, explosives and melee attacks are available. X-ray kill cams show particularly effective hits in slow motion.

Several season passes add extra missions, characters, weapons and cosmetic items to Zombie Army 4. Season Pass One includes three more levels and several weapon packs, among other things. The Switch version already includes this first pass in its base content. Further expansions are sold separately.

On PC, Zombie Army 4 requires a 64-bit processor, at least 4 GB RAM and a graphics card on the level of a GeForce GT 1030 with 2 GB video memory. Rebellion lists an Intel Core i3-6100 or a comparable AMD CPU as the processor. The Steam version requires 60 GB of free storage space.

The story takes place in an alternate Europe of the 1940s. Although the resistance has already defeated Zombie Hitler, undead armies rise again. The Survivor Brigade follows their trail through Italy and other devastated locations. Canals, abandoned facilities and a zoo overrun by zombies are among the stages of the campaign.

Weapons can be upgraded at workbenches and fitted with additional effects. Fire, electricity and other special damage types change how you deal with individual enemies. Game progress also unlocks abilities, special attacks and customizations for the characters.

The undead don't just advance slowly in masses. Armored enemies, explosive attackers and supernatural creatures interrupt familiar gunfights. This makes it necessary to change the order of targets and take out especially dangerous enemies early.

The full campaign supports up to four players in online co-op. Players can join a running game or leave it without the whole group having to start over. Those who play alone experience the same locations as a single-player campaign.

In Horde mode, you must survive waves of attackers that keep coming. As you survive longer, additional areas of the map open up. Unlike the story missions, the focus here is not on the next story section but on lasting as long as possible.

The Switch version was released on April 26, 2022, with the content of Season Pass One and previously released Horde maps. It supports single-player, local multiplayer and online matches with up to four players. Rebellion North developed this version.

The PC version offers English voice audio and German on-screen text. German text is also among the supported languages on Nintendo Switch. Zombie Army 4 is rated 18+ by USK.
