Rent an Aloft server: plan a shared world and your own islands

If you want to rent an Aloft server, first clarify what your group wants to build together. A fixed meeting place for friends has different requirements than an open world with changing guests. Decide which islands and buildings should permanently belong to the shared world and which personal areas each person brings. This split affects how you handle access rights, backups and a later change of host.

Aloft separates personal home islands from shared islands. According to the official documentation, Shared Islands stay tied to their world. A personal island move therefore does not replace an export of the entire shared world. Ask the host specifically which save data its panel backs up and how you can download it. When switching, be clear about which parts of your existing project will be available on the new server.

Set up private islands and server rules before launch

The Dedicated Server configuration includes its own options for visibility, player count and protection of personal islands. Check which of these your rental provider makes available. A plan should suit how you want to work together: can new guests build right away, or do certain areas stay protected? Also agree on who may change server settings and trigger a restart when problems occur, before you start larger building projects.

For a new world, it’s also worth looking at the world and creative settings on offer. Ask for an explanation of which choices are made during generation and what can be changed later. Save a working configuration instead of trying several options at once. When new members join, test their access and island permissions together. That way you spot an unsuitable setting early and don’t have to hunt for it during a shared building session.

Back up your world and match the plan to your crew
