What is Aloft?

Aloft is a survival and building game set in a world of floating islands. Using gliders, you travel from island to island, gather resources and turn whole pieces of land into flying, habitable ships. Instead of only fighting dangers, you can restore damaged ecosystems and settle animals.

Astrolabe Interactive develops the game and Funcom publishes it. The world can be explored alone or together with up to eight people.

Gameplay

In Aloft, gathering, crafting, exploring, building and combat alternate. You make equipment and gliders, unlock new technologies and search the clouds for ancient ruins and special islands. Wind and weather affect how you get around.

The world also rewards calmer play: farming, cooking and caring for animals are part of it, as is dealing with dangerous areas overrun by fungus.

Converting islands into airships

In Aloft, an island can be turned into a mobile base. With sails, oars and a helm, you use the wind as propulsion and transport living quarters, workshops and supplies directly through the air. Building thus becomes part of getting around, not just a stationary activity.
