Umihara Kawase Shun was released on Feb 28, 1997 in Japan for the original PlayStation. In the second part of the unusual platformer series, you guide Kawase through a surreally designed world full of fish, water pools, platforms and hidden exits. Your most important tool is a fishing rod with elastic line that can attach to walls and ledges like a grappling hook.
Swings, precision and alternative routes
Instead of simply jumping from platform to platform, you use the tension of the fishing line to pull yourself up, swing sideways or catapult over obstacles. Various exit doors lead to alternative routes through the branching so-called fields. The PlayStation version introduced more complex spatial backdrops and new options for time trials.
Japanese original from 1997
The original game was developed by Jackpot and Japan Clary Business and published by Xing Entertainment. The Japanese original edition carries the code SLPS-00643. The “Second Edition” released in 2000 expands this version but is not a standalone series. Later ports for PSP, Nintendo DS and Windows came out in different technical versions. This PlayStation edition is a historical Japanese disc game, not a Steam key and not a modern PS5 version.
