Umihara Kawase Portable brings the unusual fishing-hook platformer of the Shun series to the PlayStation Portable as its own handheld adaptation. Kawase swings on an elastic fishing line over chasms and obstacles, hangs along walls and searches the winding levels for the next exit.
Handheld version with its own changes
The PSP version is based on the PlayStation game Umihara Kawase Shun, but was technically reimplemented for Sony’s handheld. Alongside the familiar fields come further sections and obstacles such as ice blocks and conveyor belts. The controls demand precise timing, because swings, jumps and reeling in the fishing line depend directly on each other. The game is designed for single players only.
Japanese release
Marvelous released Umihara Kawase Portable on Mar 27, 2008 in Japan for PSP, with product code ULJS-00137 and CERO A age rating. The historical UMD version should not be equated with the Windows Steam edition released years later or with a PlayStation copy usable via backward compatibility. No regular German-language version is documented for this version.
