Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories tells how Toni Cipriani returns to Liberty City in 1998 and is drawn back into the mafia power game for Salvatore Leone. Rival families wage bloody battles for control of the city. Between political intrigue, strikes and the demands of his mother, Toni fights for his place in the Leone family.
Open-world crime on PlayStation 2
You explore Liberty City on foot and in vehicles, complete jobs for various contacts, and can keep yourself busy outside the story with police chases, radio stations and side missions. The layout is based on the setting of GTA III but presents a standalone prequel with new missions and characters. The PS2 version is a native console game, not a DVD of the PSP version.
Release and differences from PSP
After its launch on PlayStation Portable, Liberty City Stories came out for PlayStation 2 on June 6, 2006 in North America and on June 23, 2006 in Europe. The PS2 version focuses on the single-player campaign; the PSP’s wireless ad hoc multiplayer modes were not carried over. Historical PS3 PS2 Classics sales are emulation of the PS2 game and not a standalone native PS3 version.
