Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories is set in 1998 in Liberty City, three years before the events of GTA III. The mafioso Toni Cipriani returns from underground after a murder job. For Salvatore Leone, he is to expand the Leone family’s influence, amid rival gangsters, corrupt politicians, strikes and intrigue that affect his own family.
An open city for the PlayStation Portable
The spin-off, initially developed for PSP, combines freely drivable districts with story missions, shootouts, car chases, car theft and side activities. Streets, radio stations and familiar places from GTA III appear from an earlier phase of the city’s history. You can move between missions through Portland, Staunton Island and Shoreside Vale and shape the chaos your own way.
Original PSP release and multiplayer
The original was released in North America on Oct 25, 2005 for PlayStation Portable and in Europe on Nov 4, 2005. A special feature of the PSP version is local ad hoc multiplayer for up to six players; the later PS2 port does not include these modes. The original UMD version is listed as a historical PSP game. The later mobile versions for iOS and Android are standalone native ports and have additional graphics and touch improvements.
