Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world action role-playing game from CD PROJEKT RED. You play as V, a mercenary searching Night City for fame, money and a way out of a life-threatening situation. At the center of the story is a unique implant that puts a second personality, Johnny Silverhand, into V's head.

Night City brings together densely built city districts, industrial areas and the surroundings of the Badlands into one open game world. Missions can be approached with firearms, melee combat, stealth, cyberware or Quickhacks, depending on your build. Dialogue choices and relationships with important characters affect individual story paths and endings.

Cyberpunk 2077 first released on December 10, 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The native versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S followed on February 15, 2022 with Patch 1.5, which brought faster loading times, higher resolutions and additional ray tracing features, among other things.

In September 2023, the base game was fundamentally reworked with Update 2.0. A few days later, the major expansion Phantom Liberty was released on September 26. On June 5, 2025, the Ultimate Edition arrived as a launch title on Nintendo Switch 2. Since July 17, 2025, there has also been a native version for Apple silicon Macs.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available natively for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. On PC, Windows is supported, and since July 2025, compatible Apple silicon Macs as well.

The PS5 and Xbox Series versions are standalone current-gen versions, not just the older console versions running via backward compatibility. The Ultimate Edition with the main game and Phantom Liberty was released directly on Nintendo Switch 2. The Mac version requires at least Apple silicon, 16 GB of unified memory and macOS 15.5.

Cyberpunk 2077 combines firearms, melee combat, stealth and hacking in an open game world. V can specialize in Quickhacks, precision weapons, blades or physical strength. Attributes, perks and cyberware determine which strategies work particularly well.

With Update 2.0, perk trees, cyberware and several combat systems were fundamentally changed. Later updates added vehicle features and the Delamain taxi service, among other things.

Update 2.5, released October 22, 2026, expands combat with dual-wielded pistols and revolvers. The new perk Double Trouble belongs to the Cool attribute and is joined by four more perks. With five so-called Glamdocs, you can also customize the visible parts of arm cyberware such as Mantis Blades or Gorilla Arms. These changes affect long-term character development and V's appearance.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is the major story expansion for the game. This espionage adventure takes V to Dogtown, a sealed-off district of Night City. Together with secret agent Solomon Reed, V gets caught up in a mission involving the President of NUSA and the ruler Kurt Hansen.

Phantom Liberty was released on September 26, 2023 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The expansion is also part of the Ultimate Edition, which was later released for Nintendo Switch 2 and Apple silicon Macs.

For the current Windows version, CD PROJEKT RED or Steam lists an Intel Core i7-6700 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600, 12 GB RAM and a GeForce GTX 1060 with 6 GB, Radeon RX 580 with 8 GB or Intel Arc A380 as the minimum. The game requires DirectX 12 and around 70 GB of free SSD storage.

Recommended are an Intel Core i7-12700 or AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 16 GB RAM and a GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER, Radeon RX 5700 XT or Intel Arc A770. On Mac, macOS 15.5 or later, Apple silicon and at least 16 GB of unified memory are required. For the native Mac version, around 92 GB of free storage is listed.

The Cyberpunk universe is also being told beyond the game. The anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners uses the futuristic setting for its own story. In October 2026, Deadline also reported on a planned live-action film at Paramount Pictures, which CD PROJEKT RED is set to produce together with Lorenzo di Bonaventura. CD PROJEKT RED co-CEO Michał Nowakowski publicly expressed a positive view of Paramount as a future partner.

According to the reports, the film is in development. Plot, characters, cast, direction and release date have not yet been officially announced. The announced film production is neither a game update nor a release date for a sequel to the game.

Cyberpunk 2077 supports a built-in selection of community mods via mod.io. On PC, Mac, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, players can discover and install approved extensions directly from the in-game menu. Nintendo Switch 2 gets the feature with Update 2.5, which arrives there later. More mods are to be added over time.

On consoles, achievements and trophies remain disabled as long as a modded save is used. The load menu marks such saves with a separate icon. Regardless of mods, players can manage multiple playthroughs separately.

Cyberpunk 2077 offers an adjustable field of view on consoles. Save files are sorted by playthrough, and filters make it easier to search the vehicle and apartment storage. HDR display has been improved for suitable screens.

On supported PCs, the game offers DLSS 4.5 including dynamic multi-frame generation, as well as FSR Anti-Lag 2. Glasses-free 3D effects are planned for compatible Samsung Odyssey 3D monitors. The Mac version supports MetalFX Frame Interpolation. In addition, ray tracing and display on PlayStation 5 Pro, among other things, have been optimized.
