What is Death Stranding Director's Cut?

Death Stranding Director’s Cut is the expanded version of the action-adventure from Kojima Productions. As Sam Porter Bridges, you deliver supplies through an America torn apart by a catastrophe. The goal is to reconnect isolated cities and people.

On the road, terrain, weather, weight and cargo distribution determine whether a delivery succeeds. Supernatural enemies, human attackers and the story of the so-called Stranded create danger. The Director’s Cut adds extra missions, tools and gameplay options to the original adventure.

Gameplay

The core of Death Stranding Director’s Cut is deliveries between isolated settlements. As Sam Porter Bridges, you plan routes through mountains, rivers and devastated landscapes. The amount and distribution of cargo affect balance. Rain and damaged roads make long trips more dangerous.

Sam moves on foot, with support structures and later with vehicles, through the open world. Besides safe transport, the goal is to build new connections and improve infrastructure for upcoming missions. Sneaking and fights against human and supernatural enemies interrupt the deliveries.

What’s new in the Director’s Cut?

The Director’s Cut expands Death Stranding with new missions, equipment, vehicles and locations. At the shooting range, you can test weapons under controlled conditions. The Fragile Circuit racetrack offers its own timed races, and a special vehicle, the Roadster, is available for them.

Additional missions lead to the abandoned factory and reveal more parts of the story. New tools such as the Support Skeleton make certain deliveries easier. The content unlocks as you progress through the game and does not replace the original campaign.

How does the Social Strand System work?

The Social Strand System indirectly connects the worlds of other players. For example, you can use ladders, bridges and other structures someone else has built, or contribute materials to upgrade roads yourself. Helpful constructions can be given likes.

The campaign remains a single-player adventure. Online, mainly traces and help from other players become visible, rather than you and others completing the same missions together in real time. On supported Apple devices, these connections are linked to the PC servers of Steam and Epic.

Difference from the original version

The Director’s Cut contains the story of the original Death Stranding plus additional missions, equipment and game modes. On PS5, save games from the PS4 version can be transferred, so you do not necessarily have to start a new campaign.

On Windows, too, there is a separate switch from the original PC version to the Director’s Cut. If you want to continue your previous playtime, you should transfer your existing save before switching. A PS4 version called Director’s Cut was not released.
