What is DiRT Rally 2.0?

DiRT Rally 2.0 is a demanding rally and rallycross simulation by Codemasters. In timed and historic racing cars, drivers must account for surfaces, tires, vehicle setup and track wear. Instead of free road traffic, the focus is on stages against the clock and races on official rallycross circuits. A team career, time trials and competitive multiplayer complement the driving.

Steam lists Feb 25, 2019 as the release date of the PC version. The German PlayStation product page also gives this date. The original international announcement mentioned Feb 26, 2019 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One; depending on region and platform, the displayed date may differ. The Deluxe pre-order edition offered earlier access.

The game was developed by Codemasters. While Codemasters originally published the game itself, current stores also list Electronic Arts as publisher.

Platforms

DiRT Rally 2.0 was released natively for Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The PC version is available through Steam, among others. Sony labels the product explicitly as a PS4 game: on PS5 it can run via backward compatibility, but this does not create a native PS5 version. Likewise, the Xbox One version is playable on newer Xbox consoles, without this automatically meaning a standalone Xbox Series release.

Gameplay

In rally stages, a fast, as error-free as possible run against the clock counts. Different surfaces, weather and wear affect handling according to Codemasters. Tire choice and a suitable setup are therefore part of preparation. In the base game, rally areas are in New Zealand, Argentina, Spain, Poland, Australia and the USA. The co-driver calls out corners and hazards.

DLCs and expansions

After the original release, Codemasters expanded DiRT Rally 2.0 over four content seasons with further rally locations, rallycross tracks and vehicles. Major additions include the Colin McRae: FLAT OUT pack with 40 scenarios, twelve routes in the Scottish region of Perth and Kinross, and two Subaru rally cars. The later Game of the Year Edition bundles, according to the publisher, the base game, the seasons and the FLAT OUT pack.

Individual vehicles and race tracks are also listed as separate add-on content. The difference between the base game and the full bundle is therefore relevant for the content included.

FIA World Rallycross as a second focus

Alongside individually driven rally stages, the game offers circuit races with multiple vehicles. Codemasters integrated eight officially licensed tracks of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, plus Supercars and other classes. This mode requires wheel-to-wheel battles and race positioning rather than only a fast stage run.

Career, vehicles and progress

In career mode you build your own team and manage staff, vehicles and workshop work. Between events the car is tuned, wear is taken into account and new parts can upgrade the fleet. More than 50 different rally and off-road vehicles are available to choose from according to the official base game description.

Online modes after the RaceNet Clubs shutdown

A permanent restriction has applied since July 8, 2026: Electronic Arts has discontinued the website for DiRT Rally 2.0 and with it shut down the former RaceNet Clubs. When trying to access clubs, the store reports an error. EA and Steam explicitly name other online areas as still available, including time trials, My Team career and Quick Play multiplayer.

A single service being discontinued must not be confused with a complete shutdown of all game servers.

VR support on PC

The Windows version supports virtual reality via SteamVR or Oculus PC systems. Steam lists VR support as a product feature and names both runtimes in the system requirements. No VR support can be derived from this for the PS4 and Xbox One versions. VR mode is an additional display option and not a requirement for the base game.

Online competitions and time trials

The Steam store lists online PvP alongside single-player and cloud saves. In competitive modes, several rallycross drivers face each other, while time trials and global leaderboards also allow comparison with other players' best times. RaceNet Clubs have not been available since July 2026, but Quick Play multiplayer, My Team career and time trials remain playable according to Codemasters and EA.

That distinguishes the loss of the clan-like Clubs mode from a complete shutdown of online driving.

Game series

DiRT Rally 2.0 continues the branch of the DiRT series that focuses more on precise off-road driving physics. Unlike an open road racing game, the structure centers on rally stages, licensed rallycross races and technical preparation. Codemasters developed the title and originally published it itself; current store pages also list Electronic Arts, either additionally or as publisher.
