What is ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN?

ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN is a standalone action survival game by FromSoftware set in the universe of ELDEN RING. Instead of a classic open campaign, the focus is on a compact expedition structure: alone or in co-op, night wanderers head into Limveld, grow stronger within each run and prepare to face a Nightlord.

Nightreign is set in a parallel world to ELDEN RING and uses familiar motifs, enemies and combat systems for a standalone, replayable format. Eight different Nightfarers form the base lineup; each brings their own abilities and an individual ultimate.

ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN was released on May 30, 2025. The title is available as a standalone game and does not require ELDEN RING.

After launch, the core structure was permanently expanded. Since version 1.02, two-player expeditions are possible alongside solo and three-player expeditions. On December 4, 2025, The Forsaken Hollows was released as the first major expansion.

Gameplay

An expedition runs over three days and nights. It starts with a Nightfarer at level 1. In Limveld, you collect runes, weapons and gear while the Night’s Tide gradually shrinks the safe area. At the end of the first two nights, a boss awaits each time; after the second night, the path to the Nightlord opens to complete the run.

Limveld changes between expeditions: loot, enemies, bosses and other conditions vary, so routes and decisions cannot simply be repeated unchanged. Relics also provide lasting build adjustments between runs.

Nightreign can be played solo, as a duo or as a trio. The two-player expeditions were permanently added with version 1.02; the balance adjusts to the number of players.

DLCs and expansions

The Forsaken Hollows was released on December 4, 2025, as a major expansion for Nightreign. It adds Scholar and Undertaker as playable Nightfarers, two extra bosses on day three, new field bosses, new points of interest and another Shifting Earth that significantly changes Limveld under certain conditions.

The DLC is additional content for the base game, not a standalone game. The matching platform versions are therefore listed as DLC products under the respective Nightreign base version.
