Emberville

Emberville blends an action RPG with crafting, farming and the rebuilding of a decayed settlement. Your character wakes up without memories in the Vitromotus, a magical prison, and fights their way from there to the surface. Along the way, rescued people return to Emberville and bring new professions, tasks and options for expansion.

Cygnus Cross is the developer and publisher. The adventure is designed for single players.

Emberville is set to enter Early Access on PC on Jan 7, 2027. Cygnus Cross postponed the start originally announced for Oct 27, 2026 following feedback on the Steam Next Fest demo. Among other things, the reworked bow combat needs more time. Content that was planned for a first major update is set to be included already at launch.

Steam still shows the old date of Oct 27, 2026 in some places. The January date marks the start of the development version, not the finished version 1.0.

The first release is announced for PC via Steam. The store page lists Windows as the system requirement. Console versions are among the longer-term plans for the later full version, but have no release date.

Steam offers a demo of the prologue. The PC version supports mouse and keyboard, and partially controllers.

Trips into the depths of the Vitromotus, combat and the expansion of Emberville are intertwined. Underground areas hold various creatures, resources and survivors. Back on the surface, materials are processed, equipment is made and new tasks are unlocked in the town.

The game combines real-time combat with activities like gathering, cooking, crafting and farming. Your character gains new options not only through victories, but also through the help of rescued inhabitants.

For the PC version, Cygnus Cross lists at least Windows 10, an Intel Core i5 at 3.2 GHz or a comparable CPU, and 8 GB RAM. The graphics card must support DirectX 11. The game is meant to run on a hard drive too, but an SSD is recommended.

Combat relies on positioning, timing and chained attacks. Different weapons have their own combinations. In addition, there are active and passive abilities from several combat classes, between which your character can switch.

Learned skills can be carried over to other classes. This lets you weight melee, ranged attacks and magic differently without being tied to a single class.

The Vitromotus was meant as a prison for a bygone society. However, a mysterious force called Kymia is changing its inhabitants and landscapes. Exploration leads through tunnels, ruins, settlements and dangerous biomes.

The story combines the search for your own memories with the question of how people survive in this underground world and what happened to the former Emberville.

Rescued residents help bring the destroyed city back to life. Conversations and tasks open up new crafts and ways to supply the settlement. Your own buildings and personal farm can be decorated with workbenches, furniture, planting areas and decorations.

Rebuilding is part of progression: new work opportunities make it easier to prepare for further expeditions.

Raw materials from the surroundings are used to make weapons, equipment, potions, food and tools. Farming, gathering and crafting are separate activities alongside combat. A context-sensitive interface is intended to show the appropriate controls for different tasks.

The first Early Access version is intended to cover the beginning and the early to middle part of the adventure. Cygnus Cross announces single-player, town building, crafting, farming, cooking systems, equipment and various forms of combat.

Before the new Early Access launch, additional improvements and content originally planned for the first major update are to be added to the game. After that, Emberville is intended to evolve based on player feedback.

Emberville starts as a single-player adventure. Co-op multiplayer and modding via the Steam Workshop are among the goals for the later full version. Neither feature has been announced as part of the first Early Access version.

The PC version can be played with mouse and keyboard. Partial controller support is listed on Steam. The interface and subtitles are available in German, English, French and Japanese, among others. Steam lists full voice acting for English.
