What is Farm Together 2?

Farm Together 2 is a cooperative farming and building simulation from Milkstone Studios. A small plot grows into an ever-larger farm with fields, fruit trees, animals, farm buildings and individually laid-out paths. The appeal lies not in a fixed storyline, but in gradually expanding and shaping your own farm. The game can be run alone or with others.

The sequel expands on the predecessor with a separate town for orders and sales, an automatic tractor mode and tools for changing the terrain.

Platforms

Farm Together 2 runs on PC (Windows and macOS), PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. The consoles each have their own store versions; the Xbox release supports Smart Delivery. The Switch version listed on the Nintendo eShop is not automatically a native Switch 2 version. A standalone PS4 version is also not confirmed by the current PlayStation listing.

Gameplay

New areas are first developed with crops, trees and animal enclosures. Harvests create a cycle: sales fund more land, items and buildings. The variety lies less in a rigid mission sequence than in deciding which areas of the farm to expand first. Decorations and paths also form part of the planning. As the game progresses, both the farming and the options for arranging individual farm areas to your liking grow.

DLCs and expansions

Milkstone Studios offers free updates as well as several separately sold design packs. Documented packs include Explorer, Meadow, Gothic, Frosty, Cyber and Zen. They add themed decorations and customisation options. The core game with fields, animals, town orders and co-op does not need these packs. Extra content is tied to the respective platform version and should not be confused with a standalone full version.

The city as a second economic cycle

Alongside the main farm there is a town area. There you can sell agricultural produce and take on orders from residents. This gives production an extra goal: not every harvest is only used to buy new land, it can also be planned for a specific order. The town shops and their upgrades are therefore a lasting system for developing the farm.

Tractor and automatic mode

The tractor makes work on larger areas easier. Its automatic mode simplifies recurring tasks, so the player doesn't have to target each field individually. Especially on wide farms, the activity shifts from manually working through individual plants to planning larger growing areas. Paths and the layout of fields gain importance because they support efficient farm management.

Changing terrain and landscape

The farm is not fixed to an unchangeable terrain map. A simple terraforming system lets you adjust height differences and raise or lower hills. This is not just decoration: terraces, sightlines, plot areas and the placement of buildings also open up different options than a fully predefined landscape. Shaping the terrain thus forms its own building block alongside farming and interior design.

Farming together and granting permissions

Farm Together 2 supports co-op farm management. The owner decides on permissions so that visitors cannot interfere freely with their farm. Besides invited friends, public farms can also be visited. On Xbox and Nintendo, up to four players are listed for local play and up to 16 online; the PS5 store page also confirms online play with up to 16 people. Depending on the console, additional memberships may be required for online features.

Houses and personal customization

Customization doesn't stop at the edges of the fields. Alongside fences, roads, buildings and other objects, you can also change the appearance of your avatar and tractor. The inside of your own house can be furnished too. Activities such as cooking and painting are among those planned there. Such areas give the farm a personal character beyond its production function and offer goals for players who prefer decorating to focusing purely on yield.

Cross-platform play and saves

The developer confirms cross-play between supported platforms for Farm Together 2 and cross-save to transfer progress. The two features serve different purposes: jointly farmed fields do not require identical save files, and a transferred save does not replace the license for a second platform. Before switching devices, it is therefore worth checking the account and service requirements of the versions you use.

Time progresses between play sessions too

In Farm Together 2, game time continues according to Milkstone Studios even when players are not online. The farm is therefore not paused for every break. Anyone returning after an interruption rejoins farm management at a later point in time.

This affects the game's rhythm: work on the farm can be spread across shorter visits, while the ongoing time remains as a basic system. Unlike city tasks or tractor automation, this is not a workflow that has to be activated separately, but part of the game's time structure.

Game series

Farm Together 2 builds on the farming and cooperation idea of the first Farm Together, but it is a standalone game. Key additions include the town, automatic tractor driving, changeable terrain and, according to the developer, cross-platform play. The predecessor and the sequel have separate releases and content. The series name alone is therefore no proof that old DLC packs or save files work directly in the sequel.
