What is Granblue Fantasy: Relink?

Granblue Fantasy: Relink is an action RPG by Cygames. Instead of turn-based battles, the characters fight in real time, while a group of four characters works together. The game combines a self-contained single-player campaign with repeatable quests, boss battles and optional online co-op.

At the center is a sky-faring crew that travels the islands of the Sky Realm. Each playable character has their own weapons, abilities and movesets. Since 2026, Endless Ragnarok has expanded the world with additional story, characters and challenges.

Platforms

The original version was released natively on PC, PS4 and PS5. In July 2026, a native Nintendo Switch 2 version was added with Endless Ragnarok. Nintendo Switch 2 therefore should not be equated with the older Nintendo Switch or with a version that is merely backward compatible. A native Xbox version has not been announced by Cygames.

The PlayStation digital edition includes both PS4 and PS5 game rights. Cygames also describes an upgrade option from the PS4 disc to the PS5 digital version when the disc is inserted. These purchase and upgrade rules are separate from cross-platform multiplayer.

Gameplay

In battle, you control one hero from a group of four. The characters differ noticeably: alongside fast melee fighters, there are ranged and magic playstyles. Coordinated actions create Link Attacks and Chain Bursts. The group composition is therefore more than a cosmetic choice.

Outside of battles, the adventure leads through exploration areas, towns and missions. Loot and materials go into weapon upgrades and the long-term development of your team. The story can be played solo, while the repeatable quests in particular are designed for teamwork against larger enemies.

DLCs and expansions

The most important content expansion is Endless Ragnarok from July 9, 2026. It continues the world and game systems of Relink with an additional storyline, new characters, missions and further modes. Owners of the original game can get the new content via a corresponding Upgrade Kit.

The store also offers complete Standard and Special packages that combine the main game and expansion. These packages are not additional native platforms. In addition, there are individual character expansions, cosmetic and item packs. The overview therefore separates a playable base version from additional content and edition bundles.

Sky Realm and the journey to Zegagrande

The story follows the Captain, Lyria, Vyrn and their companions on a journey through the Sky Realm. The floating islands form a world with different peoples and so-called Primal Beasts. In the region of Zegagrande, the travelers get caught up in events surrounding the cult of the Avia Church.

The main story is easy to follow even without experience of the other Granblue games. A journal provides background on places, beings and factions. Additional Fate Episodes tell the personal backstories of individual group members.

Characters and team composition

Playstyles depend heavily on the character you choose. Some characters rely on fast attack chains and precise dodges, others on range or skills with specific areas of effect. Switching the active character therefore changes timing and positioning in combat.

The other team members support you in solo play as computer-controlled companions. Group combinations affect how boss battles unfold and how shared attacks are carried out. Additional playable characters are among the long-term expansions of the game.

Quests, gear and endgame

Alongside the campaign, there is an extensive quest mode with various mission objectives and tough boss enemies. Battles yield materials, loot and ways to upgrade weapons and characters. Progress therefore means not just a higher level, but also building suitable gear and groups.

Cygames cites more than 100 quests for the original release. Endless Ragnarok expands this long-term content with additional missions, difficulty levels and game modes. The exact challenge also depends on which expansion content is installed.

Online co-op and crossplay

Relink can be played solo. In quest mode, up to four people online can team up. The main story is not designed for four players controlling characters at the same time, so the solo campaign and co-op quests should be understood as different parts of the game.

At the original launch, cross-platform play was limited to PS4 and PS5. With the changes introduced in 2026 around Endless Ragnarok, Cygames added crossplay between the supported platforms. On PlayStation, a PlayStation Plus subscription is required for online play.

Accessibility features and controls

If you don't want to fully control the fast real-time battles manually, you can turn on assist features. A Full Assist mode automatically handles large parts of the actions and is meant to make the campaign and quests more accessible for players with different skill levels.

On PS5, the native version supports the vibration and adaptive trigger features of the DualSense controller. Text and menus are available in German, while voice audio is offered in English and Japanese. The accessibility features do not replace a full, individually verified accessibility certification.

Endless Ragnarok: new campaign and systems

Since July 9, 2026, Endless Ragnarok continues the action RPG with a new story. Cygames adds playable characters, new quests, bosses and additional systems for repeatable challenges. After the expansion, online players can access a larger, cross-platform pool of potential players.

The name can be confusing when buying: on Nintendo Switch 2, Endless Ragnarok is the first native Relink version. On PC, PS4 and PS5, by contrast, alongside complete packages there is also an upgrade to the existing base game. The expansion is therefore neither a mere cosmetic edition nor a second independent game series.

Game series

Relink is part of Cygames' Granblue Fantasy series. The world of floating islands and many characters come from the larger series universe, but Relink uses its own action RPG structure instead of the gameplay of the original browser and mobile RPG.

It should also be distinguished from the fighting game Granblue Fantasy Versus. Shared characters and locations make the link to the series recognizable, while the combat system, progression and co-op content for Relink are designed independently.
