Tales of Arise

Tales of Arise is a story-driven action JRPG from Bandai Namco Studios and part of the Tales series. It centers on Alphen and Shionne, who get caught up in the conflict between Dahna and Rena. The game combines a linear main plot with explorable regions, side quests and real-time combat.

Tales of Arise launched on Sep 10, 2021 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The expansion Beyond the Dawn followed on Nov 9, 2023. Since May 22, 2026, the game is also natively available on Nintendo Switch 2, where it is offered as the Beyond the Dawn Edition with the base game and expansion.

Native versions exist for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. The Switch 2 release is a separate native version, not pure backward compatibility. There is no native Nintendo Switch 1 version.

Combat happens in real time. Players directly control one party member, combining standard attacks with Artes, evasive maneuvers and situational boost attacks from companions. Beyond combat, the journey takes you through several regions of Dahna, with exploration, resources, side quests and camp sites as recurring elements.

Bandai Namco uses Unreal Engine 4 and the custom-built "Atmospheric Shader", which is meant to make characters and environments look more like hand-painted illustrations.

Beyond the Dawn is the main story expansion for Tales of Arise. It takes place about a year after the end of the base game and introduces Nazamil as a new key character. Bandai Namco cites more than 20 hours of additional content with new quests, dungeons, boss fights and a new storyline. The expansion was released on Nov 9, 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S and is included in the Switch 2 version of the game.

For the PC version, Bandai Namco lists Windows 10 (64-bit), 8 GB RAM and 45 GB of free storage. Minimum requirements are an Intel Core i5-2300 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200 and a GeForce GTX 760 or Radeon HD 7950. Recommended are an Intel Core i5-4590 or AMD FX-8350 and a GeForce GTX 970 or Radeon R9 390.
