What is Halloween: The Game?

Halloween: The Game is an asymmetric horror game by IllFonic that reinterprets John Carpenter's Halloween from 1978 as a playable horror sandbox. The game combines a standalone single-player campaign from Michael Myers' perspective with 1-vs-4 multiplayer, in which one player hunts as “The Shape” and four civilians try to save Haddonfield.

The single-player follows Michael across six chapters, from his escape from Smith's Grove to the events in Haddonfield. The multiplayer expands the familiar film setting with four large maps, dynamic residents, police patrols and changing situations. Four days after the regular launch, IllFonic already reported more than one million players.

Gameplay

As Michael Myers, Halloween focuses on observation, shadows and targeted sneaking. Residents react to sight contact, call for help or fight back, so inconspicuous approach becomes just as important as Michael's supernatural resilience. In story mode, the six chapters can be replayed with side missions, collectibles and several difficulty levels.

On the other side, four players take on the Heroes of Haddonfield. They search for weapons and household items, warn residents, repair escape routes and can equip or command NPCs. Whoever calls the police reinforces patrols on the map and can temporarily pressure Michael.

At launch there are four multiplayer maps: Haddonfield Town Center, Haddonfield Heights, Orange Grove Estates and East Haddonfield. Well-known places such as the Myers house, the Strode house, Nichols Hardware and the Doyle and Wallace houses are connected with new areas. Civilians use a perk card system, while Michael can unlock new abilities, starting weapons, executions and cosmetic variants.
