Predator: Hunting Grounds

Predator: Hunting Grounds is an asymmetrical online shooter by IllFonic set in the Predator universe. Four players take on a strike team and complete mission objectives, while a fifth controls the alien Predator. Both sides have different equipment, perspectives and win conditions.

As a fireteam, you complete missions and then try to reach evacuation. The Predator hunts the soldiers with alien technology. A classic single-player campaign is not the focus.

Predator: Hunting Grounds was released on Apr 24, 2020 for PlayStation 4 and PC. The Steam release of the PC version followed on Apr 29, 2021.

On Oct 1, 2024, standalone native versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S were added. The PS5 version should be told apart from the backward-compatible PS4 game.

The game has native versions for PlayStation 4, PC (Windows), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Xbox store page lists Series X|S, not Xbox One. On PS5, the backward-compatible PS4 version and the standalone native PS5 version should be told apart.

Online play is a core part. Multiplayer on PlayStation requires PlayStation Plus; Xbox names a corresponding Game Pass membership. The stores confirm crossplay or cross-platform multiplayer features.

Four players form the Fireteam and complete mission objectives from a first-person perspective in a jungle area. Alongside the Predator itself, computer-controlled enemies stand in their way. After the mission, the squad can reach evacuation or face the alien hunter together.

Another player controls the Predator from a third-person perspective. Camouflage, enhanced agility and technical gadgets make tracking the soldiers the player's own role. Equipment includes, among others, the shoulder plasma caster, wrist blades and the extendable Combistick. Classes and equipment variants change speed, toughness and playstyle.

The additional content for Predator: Hunting Grounds mainly adds playable Predator variants, classes, equipment and cosmetic customization. Official packs include City Hunter from the second cinema film, Samurai Predator and several Dutch variants for the Fireteam. The content is DLC for the base game, not standalone sequels.

For the release on new console hardware, IllFonic offered the Jungle and Yautja editions alongside the standard version. They contain different combinations of additional Predator characters. What a purchase includes therefore depends on the respective edition.

For PC, Steam lists as minimum requirements Windows 10 (64-bit), 8 GB RAM and 25 GB free storage. Processors listed are Intel Core i5-6400 or AMD FX-8320, graphics cards Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 or AMD Radeon R9 280X. A broadband internet connection is required.

Recommended are 16 GB RAM, Intel Core i7-5930K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X, and a GeForce GTX 1660 or Radeon R9 Fury X. These details refer to the PC version, not the console versions.

The PlayStation Store lists aids for the native PS5 version such as increased contrast, individual volume controls, control reminders and a practice mode. Options also include disabling vibration and communicating via voice chat transcription and ping markers.

The listed features are explicitly stated for the store product on PS5. This does not automatically prove the same features for all other platform versions.

A match combines cooperative and competitive elements. The four-person Fireteam coordinates on objectives, fights and retreat, while the lone Predator player must react to the squad's movements. Both roles offer their own classes and equipment choices.

The official PC and Xbox stores list cross-platform multiplayer. However, this does not imply cross-platform save transfer or a license for multiple systems.
