Grappling hook, wingsuit and parachute

Rico moves through the island world with the grappling hook, wingsuit and parachute. The grappling hook pulls him toward buildings or vehicles and connects objects to each other. The wingsuit allows fast gliding flights, while the parachute gives control over altitude and direction.

The interplay of the three tools is a core part of the combat system: Rico can jump off a moving vehicle, change direction in the air and attack from a new position a few seconds later.

Destruction and physics

Just Cause 3 features military facilities that can be destroyed with gunfire, rockets and explosives. Connecting two objects with the grappling hook also creates physics effects, for example when vehicles are pulled against each other. Such actions also contribute to liberation progress in Medici.

Vehicles and aircraft

Rico drives cars, motorcycles, boats, helicopters and jets. Many vehicles can be taken over directly in the open world. Because movement and combat interlock, chases can seamlessly turn into parachute jumps, air battles or attacks on ground installations.

Challenges and progress

Alongside the campaign, there are challenges for stunts, races and using certain tools. They add measurable tasks to free exploration. Collectibles and retaking locations give additional goals beyond the main missions.
