What is Lollipop Chainsaw?
Lollipop Chainsaw is a hack-and-slash released in 2012 by Grasshopper Manufacture. It centers on Juliet Starling, a cheerleader at San Romero High and member of a family of zombie hunters. When an outbreak overruns her school, Juliet grabs a chainsaw and combines brutal melee attacks with acrobatic cheerleading moves.
The game deliberately thrives on the contrast between bright pop aesthetics, black humor and exaggerated zombie action. The project was creatively shaped by Grasshopper Manufacture around Goichi Suda; Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment handled the Western release.

Release
The original version of Lollipop Chainsaw came out in Europe on June 15, 2012 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It must be clearly separated from Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP: RePOP is a 2024 remake of the game and not a later PC, PS5, Xbox Series or Switch version of the original 2012 product.
The original itself has no later native re-release on current platforms that would need to be listed here as an additional platform version.

Platforms
The original Lollipop Chainsaw was released natively for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Exactly these two versions belong to the original game.
Modern releases on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series or Nintendo Switch refer to Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP. The remake is a separate product and not a platform version of the original.

Gameplay
In terms of gameplay, Lollipop Chainsaw is a fast third-person hack-and-slash. Juliet combines light and heavy attacks, chainsaw combos and cheerleading techniques to take out larger groups of zombies as spectacularly as possible. The scoring system rewards chain attacks and stylish multi-kills.
Between fights, the game relies on short mini-games, quirky staging and boss fights against particularly eccentric zombie enemies. The campaign is built as a single-player adventure and follows Juliet's path through the different areas of San Romero.

DLCs and expansions
The 2012 original mainly received additional costumes and regional or pre-order bonus content. A major story expansion, which would today be treated as a standalone DLC for the main game, is not part of the core release.
The far more important later return of the game is Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP: the 2024 remake modernizes the original, but it is a separate game and not a DLC.

System requirements
For the original Lollipop Chainsaw there are no PC system requirements, because the 2012 version was released exclusively for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. PC requirements for Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP belong to the remake and are therefore not transferred to the original.

Game series
After years as a cult title, Lollipop Chainsaw has become an active brand again. In 2024, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP came out as a remake of the original. Dragami Games also announced a new game and an anime project in 2025; in September 2026 the name of the new series entry, Lollipop Chainsaw 2 Back2Back, followed, which is initially set to release on PlayStation 5 in 2027.
At the Tokyo Game Show 2026, a live-action film adaptation was also announced. According to reports from the presentation, the film is planned as an R-rated action comedy and a prequel to the original. This means the game, anime and film run as separate projects within the same brand.
