Mafia: The Old Country

Mafia: The Old Country is a narrative third-person action adventure from Hangar 13 and 2K. Set in early 20th-century Sicily, you play Enzo Favara, who, after a childhood in forced labour, seeks to join the Torrisi family.

The focus is on staged story missions with stealth, knife and gun combat, historical automobiles and horseback rides. The expansive Sicilian setting is the backdrop for a focused mafia story, not just a collection of interchangeable activities.

Mafia: The Old Country released in August 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The international launch date is given as Aug 8, 2025. Some regional stores already show Aug 7. Developer is Hangar 13, publisher 2K.

The free Free Ride mode with its own challenges arrived in November 2025. In August 2026, Man of Honor added two more story chapters to the plot. The game is therefore no longer limited to the scope of its original release.

The base game was released natively for PC with Windows, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Xbox version is also available via cloud if the respective requirements are met. However, this does not mean there was a separate Xbox One release.

The PS5 version supports offline play and Remote Play and includes PS5 Pro optimisations. Steam offers the PC version as a single-player title with controller support and HDR. The Deluxe and Definitive editions are content packs for the same game version, not separate platform games.

Enzo's missions alternate between staged dialogue, exploring Sicilian locations, covert actions and direct violence. In combat, knives, pistols, rifles and shotguns of the era are used. Alternate routes and stealth actions offer alternatives to open gunfights.

On journeys between mission locations, Enzo uses horses and early automobiles. The campaign tells a connected story arc. If you're looking for challenges without direct story progress instead, you'll find them in the Free Ride mode, which was added later.

The base game was supplemented after release with cosmetic packs and the story expansion Man of Honor. Gatto Nero and Padrino, for example, provide special vehicles, weapons and clothing. Soldato as well as digital music and artbook content are among the bonus materials, depending on the edition.

The current Definitive Edition includes the main game, Man of Honor and several add-on packs. It is not a sequel, nor a standalone playable episode without the main game. Which components a bundle contains should be checked on the respective official store page.

The Windows version requires at least 16 GB RAM, a Radeon RX 5700 XT or GeForce RTX 2070, and a Ryzen 7 2700X or Core i7-9700K. Steam lists 55 GB of free SSD storage and DirectX 12.

32 GB RAM, a Radeon RX 6950 XT or RTX 3080 Ti and a Ryzen 7 5800X or Core i7-12700K are recommended. The details come from the official PC requirements.

After a youth spent in exploitative working conditions, Enzo Favara hopes for a self-determined life. Of all families, the Sicilian Torrisi family promises him protection, belonging and advancement. In return, Don Torrisi demands unconditional loyalty.

At the start of the 20th century, the interests of rival families collide. Enzo becomes part of a conflict in which his personal ties and the orders from his superiors do not necessarily align. The story is a fictional prequel within the Mafia series.

In close combat, the blade is an important tool. Enzo can take out enemies quietly or engage in duels. For shootouts, pistols, rifles and the period-appropriate Lupara shotgun are available, among others. The arsenal is based on the historical era without giving up the staging of an action game.

If you want a tougher challenge, you can select the Classic difficulty since the Free Ride update. It makes combat, ammo handling and driving harder and reduces certain assists. Classic can also be used in the story campaign.

With the free Free Ride update from Nov 20, 2025, the game gained a standalone mode in which you can explore Valle Dorata at your own pace. New racing and combat challenges were added, including circuit races, sprints, time trials, horse races, survival fights and time-critical assassinations.

Progress in the campaign unlocks additional challenges. The update also brought a photo mode, a first-person driving camera and the Cinema Siciliano filmic look with black-and-white image and Sicilian voice-over. Free Ride is more than a free tour of the setting, but it does not replace Enzo's main story.

The expansion Man of Honor, released on Aug 14, 2026, adds two story chapters. Enzo works with the younger Ennio Salieri, who wants to settle his own debts. The expansion thus connects the Sicilian prequel setting with a character from the wider Mafia story world.

In addition, Man of Honor expands Free Ride mode with missions and more demanding challenges, new collectibles, and gear, weapons and vehicles. The DLC requires the main game. It is sold separately and is also included in the Definitive Edition.

The game is designed as a single-player experience. Steam and the console stores do not list a cooperative or competitive multiplayer campaign. On PS5, the game can be played offline with one player.

The PC accessibility options include adjustable difficulty, font and subtitle options, alternative color schemes, camera comfort settings and separate audio sliders. The Free Ride update also added further adjustments to controls and target markers.

The Standard Edition includes the actual game. The Deluxe Edition bundles additional items and bonus material. With the later released Definitive Edition, an expanded game edition also includes Man of Honor and further extras.

The differences concern included content, not a new platform version. The official PC store page lists, among others, Padrino, Gatto Nero, Soldato, plus a digital artbook and soundtrack. Some content can only be unlocked through game progress.
