Permafrost

Permafrost is a story-based survival game by SpaceRocket Games and Toplitz Productions. In a world frozen after the Moon broke apart, engineer Rook searches for a missing friend. Gathering, building and exploring form the core of the adventure.

On Oct 9, 2026, the Windows PC version launched on Steam in early access. The developers plan at least twelve months for this development phase, but have not yet published a firm release date for the full version.

The native PC version is currently confirmed and available on Steam, GOG and Epic Games Store. Steam lists Windows as the supported OS and German text and subtitles. No firm console launch has been announced.

Permafrost links exploration, resource gathering and building up shelters. Cold, snowstorms and the search for equipment shape how trips are planned. A dog accompanies Rook and helps detect dangers and carry loads.

Steam also lists a digital novel, a companion book and a cookbook. These extras are not confirmed new game areas or expansions with their own campaign.

According to Steam, the Windows version requires 16 GB RAM, around 30 GB storage and at least a GTX 1060 with 6 GB or an RX 590 with 8 GB. An RTX 3070 Ti or RX 6750 XT is recommended.

Permafrost supports single-player and cooperative online play for up to four players in total. Planning supplies, shelters and exploration routes together is part of the core gameplay.

According to the studio, early access includes several areas, side quests, blueprints and recipes. The developers want to add more regions, characters, tasks and vehicles over at least twelve months. The release date for the full version is open.
