Professor Layton and the New World of Steam

Professor Layton and the New World of Steam is a new puzzle adventure from LEVEL5 that continues the story of the main series. One year after the events of Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, Professor Hershel Layton travels to the USA, where Luke Triton now lives. In the rapidly expanded steam-powered city of Steam Bison, both get drawn into a new mysterious case.

LEVEL5 is releasing Professor Layton and the New World of Steam on Dec 10, 2026. The game was originally planned for 2025, but was moved to 2026 so the studio can finish development to the quality it wants.

The game is coming natively to Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. LEVEL5 lists German, English, Japanese, French, Italian, Spanish, Korean, and traditional and simplified Chinese among the supported languages for all versions.

Like the earlier Layton games, New World of Steam combines exploration, conversations and an ongoing mystery story with numerous standalone puzzles. For the new puzzles, LEVEL5 is working with QuizKnock. The TGS 2026 demo shows Layton and Luke meeting inventor Eggmuffin Sonder and leads straight into several new puzzles.

Steam Bison is an American city shaped by rapid development driven by revolutionary steam technology. Luke now lives there with his family and has earned the nickname “Great Detective Luke” by solving everyday cases. Key characters include the Allinston Twins, inventor Eggmuffin Sonder, city lord Bolt Allinston, Sheriff Bobsley, Falcon and Mystella.

The title music of Professor Layton and the New World of Steam is composed by Joe Hisaishi. Lilas, also known as ikura of YOASOBI, provides the lyrics and vocals for the song “The New World”.
