What is Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy?

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is a collection of three narrative courtroom adventures from Capcom. Across 14 cases, the young lawyer Phoenix Wright defends clients accused of crimes. Instead of action combat, conversations, investigations, deductions and the search for contradictions drive the gameplay.

The three stories included form the start of the Ace Attorney main series. The collection therefore works as an entry point with no prior knowledge needed. Characters and relationships develop across several cases, although each trial has its own investigation and courtroom hearing.

Release

The trilogy first appeared on Apr 17, 2014 in Japan for Nintendo 3DS, there under the title Gyakuten Saiban 123: Naruhodō Selection. It followed on the European 3DS eShop on Dec 11, 2014. The handheld version with stereoscopic 3D is an older release and has not been sold new through regular channels since the 3DS eShop closed.

On Apr 9, 2019 the revised HD collection came out on PC, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One. The German PlayStation Store already lists Apr 8 for PS4. In June 2022 the modernized collection also reached iOS and Android. A large free feature update followed in November 2025. These are releases of the same game collection, not new standalone main entries.

Platforms

Native versions are available for Windows PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, iOS and Android. The original Nintendo 3DS version is historically relevant, but new eShop sales for that system have ended. According to Microsoft, the Xbox version can also be played on Xbox Series X|S, and Sony says the PS4 version is playable on PS5. A separate native PS5 or Xbox Series release cannot be inferred from this.

Nintendo lists Switch 2 compatibility for the Switch version. This also does not equal a separate Switch 2 game. The Microsoft Store version supports Xbox Play Anywhere, while the Steam version is a standalone PC release. Mobile devices use their own app versions with device-specific minimum requirements.

Gameplay

The three games combine classic adventure exploration with courtroom trials. Players question characters, examine locations and collect evidence. During trials, witness testimonies are compared with clues to spot contradictions and uncover new information.

Close reading of text and logical deduction form the core of the single-player adventure. The collection relies neither on cooperative tasks nor on real-time combat; the presentation lives on dialogue, characters and the twists of the 14 cases.

Story mode, episode select and Auto-Play

Since the free feature update of November 2025, more game options are available. Episode select opens individual cases directly. Auto-Play continues dialogue without constant input. In the optional story mode, the game also takes over the puzzle steps needed to progress, so players can focus on the story.

If you want to solve the cases yourself, you can still do so as originally intended. These features change accessibility and navigation, not the 14 stories included.

Capcom bundles the start of the main Phoenix Wright series here. The three games introduce the key characters and relationships and tell a connected story across 14 episodes. Later entries and the Apollo Justice trilogy are not included. The Ace Attorney Anthology offered in 2024 combines both collections and is not a new standalone release.
