Puyo Puyo Tetris 2

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 brings SEGA Puyos and Tetris blocks together in a competitive puzzle game. Whoever connects at least four Puyos of the same color or completes Tetris lines clears their field and sends extra blocks to the opponent. Both rule sets can be played separately or combined in special modes.

The sequel expands the first Puyo Puyo Tetris with a new adventure story, character abilities and additional online leagues. Beginners learn the basics in lessons, while experienced players practice chains and fast line combinations.

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 was released on December 8, 2020 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S outside Japan. The PC version was released on March 23, 2021 on Steam.

On Nintendo Switch 2, the standalone Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S was released on June 5, 2025. It includes the content of the second part and expands it with, among other things, the cooperative Doubles mode and mouse controls with Joy-Con 2. Both releases are standalone products.

The original Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 is available natively for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. The console versions support local multiplayer. Online matches are also available.

For Switch 2, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S is a separate version. It should not be equated with the original Switch game or simply a backward compatibility feature.

In Versus, Puyo Puyo and Tetris face each other directly. Swap switches between two boards during the duel, while Fusion brings Puyos and Tetriminos onto the same field. Big Bang delivers series of quick puzzle tasks, and Party adds items that influence the action.

In Skill Battle, three-player teams with character abilities compete against each other. Instead of just filling the opponent's field, you attack their life points. Special abilities change Puyos, clear rows or heal the team. In Adventure Mode, experience and item cards improve the characters' stats.

After release, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 received free expansions with additional characters and features. The permanently added content includes Sonic as a playable character and cooperative boss battles in the Skill Battle system. These modes do not require separate games.

The PC version supports Windows and, according to Steam, requires at least 4 GB RAM, an Intel Core i3-6100 or AMD FX-4350, and a GeForce GTS 750 or Radeon HD 5770 with DirectX 11. For the recommended configuration, SEGA lists 8 GB RAM, an Intel Core i5-2300 or AMD FX-8350, and a GeForce GTX 750 Ti or Radeon HD 7770. It needs 4 GB of disk space.

In Adventure Mode, the worlds of Puyo Puyo and Tetris get mixed up again. Ringo and Tee, together with old and new friends, search for the reason behind the mix-up. The game takes you across a map to puzzle duels with different rules, tasks and dialogue scenes.

The mode also introduces the characteristics of the playable characters, who later take on different roles in Skill Battle.

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 supports up to four players in local and online matches. Free online games include Versus, Swap, Fusion, Party, Big Bang and Skill Battle, among others. Players who want to play competitively compete in separate ranked ladders for Puzzle, Tetris, Puyo Puyo and Skill Battle.

The PC version also supports Steam Remote Play Together. Which online features you can use depends on the platform and its network services.

The PC version offers German menus and subtitles. English and Japanese are available as voice-over. Other text languages on Steam are English, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
