River City Girls 2

River City Girls 2 is a side-scrolling beat 'em up with role-playing elements. Misako and Kyoko roam River City with their friends, take on a criminal organisation and learn new attacks. Six characters are available, each with their own fighting styles and upgradable abilities.

You can play alone or team up with others in co-op.

Released on Dec 1, 2022 in Japan for PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. In Europe and North America, these console versions came out on Dec 15, 2022. The PC version was released on Steam on Dec 14, 2022.

The iOS version followed on Nov 21, 2024. A standalone Android version was also released in 2024.

River City Girls 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, iOS and Android. The mobile versions are released under the name Crunchyroll River City Girls 2 and require a Crunchyroll membership at the Mega Fan or Ultimate Fan level.

Multiplayer features differ depending on the system. On mobile devices, local co-op is offered, while the online player count differs between consoles and PC.

The six playable characters use different strikes, throws and aerial combos. Successes in fights expand your range of techniques. New gear and items from shops help you adapt your fighting style to tougher enemies.

Combat techniques include breaking through the enemy's guard and attacks with special effects.

The paid Double Dragon DLC adds Billy and Jimmy Lee as playable fighters with their own attacks, dialogue and a new song. The expansion released on consoles on Nov 12, 2024, and on PC on Dec 4, 2024. The add-on also includes a new training master.

On PC, River City Girls 2 requires at least Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core 2 Duo E7500, 4 GB RAM, a GeForce GTX 750 or comparable graphics, and 6 GB of free storage. Recommended are 8 GB RAM, an Intel Core i7-3770 or AMD Phenom II X6 1035T, and a Radeon HD 7800 graphics card or GeForce GTX 950.

Misako and Kyoko are back, as are Kunio and Riki. Marian and Provie expand the playable group. Each character has their own attacks and abilities, which you can upgrade during fights.

Your choice of character changes not only the look, but also the options for combos and special moves.

Locally, up to four people can play together. On PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, online co-op with four players has also been possible since a later expansion. On other console versions, online co-op is limited to two players.

If you play with friends on different platforms, compare the respective online features beforehand. The co-op in the mobile versions is offered separately as a local feature.

River City consists of several interconnected districts with side paths, shops and hidden areas. You don't just move through the city on a fixed route. You can revisit places and discover new access points.

A day-night cycle and varied locations keep exploration interesting.

You can recruit defeated enemies as support. Up to two allies then help in fights. In dozens of shops you can find items and gear that open up new options for the next street fight.

River City Girls 2 combines pixel graphics with animated intro sequences and comic-style cutscenes. The characters speak English or Japanese. The soundtrack was composed by Megan McDuffee, who also wrote music for the first game.

The iPhone, iPad and Android versions are offered as Crunchyroll River City Girls 2. Access requires a Crunchyroll membership at the Mega Fan or Ultimate Fan level. Downloading the app does not replace this subscription.

The mobile version features local co-op. Console or PC features such as the expanded online player count are not automatically included.

The PC version offers German on-screen text as well as English, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese and other languages. Voice acting is available in English and Japanese. On mobile devices and consoles, language support may differ.
