Gameplay

The focus is on fast top-down combat, precise skillshots and freely combinable builds. Memories form the active abilities, while Essences change them or combine them with each other. After a year of updates, more than 200 Memories and Essences are available.

Each Traveler has their own combat rhythm. With The Starless Path, the selection grows to nine Travelers: Cetus is a frost-based ranged fighter who controls enemies with large glaciers and, depending on the build, can be played as a burst mage or a sturdier melee fighter.

Solo, the focus is more on dodging and precise timing. In co-op for up to four players, enemies become more aggressive, while different builds complement each other in strong team combinations. The anniversary update also adds six shared Identity Memories, the new “Way of Stars” progression path, additional boss patterns and a new ending.

Online co-op and crossplay

Shape of Dreams can be played fully solo or with up to four people in online co-op. Fights become more intense in a team, and freely combined abilities can complement each other: if one character controls enemies, another can deal targeted damage. Fixed roles are not required.

At the console launch, crossplay between PC and the console versions was confirmed. This lets friends team up across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.

Progression, builds and endgame

Each of the nine Travelers has their own active and passive starting abilities. Memories form the basis of attacks, Essences change their effect. With the permanent Constellation system, the character also grows beyond individual runs.

The Starless Path brought the Way of Stars progression path, additional Identity Memories, more story episodes and an alternative ending with a new final boss. In addition, Limbo offers an especially high endgame difficulty.
