What is Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance?

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is Atlus' expanded re-release of the RPG originally released in 2021. In a devastated Tokyo, the protagonist joins forces with a mysterious figure to become the Nahobino. He explores the desert landscape of Da'at, negotiates with demons and fights for the future of the world.

The new release offers two standalone story paths: the original Canon of Creation and the additionally developed Canon of Vengeance. It includes revised game systems, numerous new demons, and new areas and dialogue.

This release is a standalone product, not a paid upgrade DLC for the original Switch game Shin Megami Tensei V from 2021. Both campaigns are part of the base game of the Vengeance version.

Platforms

Atlus and SEGA released the Vengeance version natively for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. The PC version is the Windows/Steam version. Running the Switch version on newer hardware does not count as a separate native Switch 2 release.

Digital Deluxe offers bundle the base game with additional demon quests and Mitama packs. They are not a standalone new platform version.

Gameplay

The RPG relies on turn-based combat, where elemental weaknesses, resistances and precise turn planning are decisive. The Nahobino recruits demons through conversation and uses fusion to build new allies with other abilities.

Vengeance expands the combat system with, among other things, special Magatsuhi skills and a larger selection of demons. Building a strong party remains a central part of exploration, boss battles and character development.

DLCs and expansions

Some of the demons and quests offered separately in the original Shin Megami Tensei V are included in the base Vengeance version. Additionally, the extra demon quests Sakura Cinders of the East with Konohana Sakuya and Holy Will and Profane Dissent with Dagda were released.

The Mitama packs for Experience, Macca and Miracles affect resource gathering. The Digital Deluxe Edition includes several of these DLCs as a bundle; the bundle is not equivalent to another native base game.
