Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is an arcade racing game by Sonic Team. Sonic and other characters from the SEGA universe race over land, water and through the air. The central feature is Travel Rings: during a race they open paths to other dimensions and can significantly change the track in the second lap.

Gameplay

The races combine classic kart racing with the CrossWorlds system. In the second round, Travel Rings can transport drivers into alternate worlds. This changes the track layout, obstacles and race conditions mid-race.

At launch, the game includes 24 main tracks, 23 Sonic drivers, more than 45 vehicles and over 70 gadgets. Front, rear and tires can be combined, vehicles can be customized visually, and gadgets change values such as boost efficiency, item odds or recovery times.

For November 2026, SEGA has announced a new one-on-one duel mode with its own Duel Boost, a Grand Master Disc and 15 more gadgets. These systems are meant to be available to all players as an update.

DLCs and expansions

SEGA is expanding CrossWorlds with paid crossover packs as well as free characters and permanent game systems. The first Season Pass includes Minecraft, SpongeBob SquarePants, PAC-MAN, Mega Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Avatar Legends, among others. The second Season Pass is a separate expansion collection: it went on sale in October 2026, and its six major packs will be released in stages through the end of 2027.

Six themes for the second pack have now been officially named: Godzilla (according to the international Steam store, from Nov 3, 2026), EVANGELION (January 2027), Virtual Sanrio Puroland (Q2 2027), SEGALAND (Q3 2027), Final Fantasy VII Remake (Q3 2027) and Persona (Q4 2027). SEGA confirmed the last two series names on Oct 10, 2026. An older Steam listing still shows the working titles “Midgar” and “Reload Revival Royal” for these. The series names alone do not confirm any driver or vehicle list.

The Godzilla content is set to include the Godzilla Escape track and three vehicles. EVANGELION adds the Tokyo-III track as well as Rei Ayanami and Asuka Shikinami Langley. Virtual Sanrio Puroland brings Hello Kitty and Kuromi as drivers, and SEGALAND features vehicles based on SEGA classics. Bonus decals in the design of older consoles are already available at launch, while the SEGA console pack with vehicles follows later. The Japanese announcement gives Nov 4 local time for Godzilla and the console bonus, while Steam lists Nov 3. Free Year Two drivers and the new duel and gadget systems are separate from purchasing the DLC pass.
