What is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered?

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered is the modernised version of CD PROJEKT RED's open-world RPG about Geralt of Rivia. The story remains the familiar search for Ciri through Velen, Novigrad and Skellige, while the Remastered version brings the technology, controls and core game systems up to date.

This is not a new series entry. On PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Remastered is delivered as an upgrade to the existing game; for Nintendo Switch 2, a native version is released.

Gameplay

Remastered reworks several core systems of The Witcher 3. CD PROJEKT RED has rebuilt the skill tree to make builds more flexible, and modernised combat with reworked animations, additional finishers and an adaptive camera. The five Witcher Signs are also being reworked.

Outside of combat, movement and traversal have been adjusted. Geralt’s controls respond more directly, Roach’s handling has been reworked, and monsters are meant to behave more convincingly in fights.

System requirements

CD PROJEKT RED has updated the PC requirements for the Remastered version. For 1080p at 30 FPS on low settings, the developer lists a Core i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 2600, 12 GB RAM and a GeForce GTX 1660, Radeon RX 5500 XT or Intel Arc A580. For 1080p/60 on high settings, Core i7-8700K or Ryzen 5 3600X as well as RTX 2060 Super, RX 6600 XT or Arc B580 are listed.

Ray tracing and path tracing require significantly stronger hardware. For Ray Tracing Ultra at 1440p/60, an RTX 4080 or RX 9070 XT with upscaling is listed. The highest path tracing target for 4K/60 lists Core i9-13900K or Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 24 GB RAM and GeForce RTX 5080; upscaling and Frame Generation are part of this target configuration.

From the next game update, CD PROJEKT RED will also raise the technical minimum baseline: Windows 11 (64-bit), DirectX 12 and an SSD will then be required. The new minimum profile lists Ryzen 5 2600 or Core i5-8400, 12 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 1660 or Radeon RX 5500 XT with 8 GB, and 70 GB SSD storage. Windows 10 is no longer officially tested or supported; CDPR does explicitly point out, however, that this does not automatically mean the game will stop launching there with the next update.

The details apply to PC.

Accessibility

Remastered groups accessibility options in a dedicated settings section and adds the new Bard's Ballad preset. It is meant to reduce cognitive load and can optionally simplify several game mechanics. The included aids can be turned on or off individually.

Ukrainian text localisation is also being added. Existing accessibility options are moved into the new section instead of remaining spread across several menus.
