Platforms

Train Sim World 6 was released natively for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. On PC, the simulation is available via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

PS4 and Xbox One offer fewer train runs and additional AI trains on some routes than more powerful systems. The restrictions mainly affect the timetable and not generally whether a route is available.

Gameplay

Anyone taking over a journey must judge speed and braking distance, observe signals and operate the equipment of the particular train. Regional trains, intercity services and freight trains each have different demands. Alongside the normal timetable, there are fixed scenarios and guided journeys made up of several tasks.

In free mode, you can put together your own journeys. The training area introduces the controls and allows first attempts without busy line traffic.

DLCs and expansions

The Standard Edition includes the Morristown Line, Riviera Line and Leipzig–Dresden routes, including local transport around Dresden. The Deluxe Edition expands the selection with the NJ TRANSIT ALP-45DP, DB BR 294 and CrossCountry Class 220 locomotives. The Special Edition adds five more routes, including the Semmering Railway and Zwolle–Groningen.

Additional routes and vehicles can be bought individually. Many older Train Sim World add-ons can continue to be used in Part 6 on the same platform, provided they are supported. Add-ons purchased new for Part 6 do not work automatically in earlier games.

Leipzig–Dresden: ICE, regional and freight traffic

The Leipzig–Dresden route covers a network of more than 160 kilometers and 42 stations. The fleet includes, among other things, an ICE-T of class 411, the BR 442 regional railcar and locomotives for double-deck and freight trains.

Connections to Meißen, Großenhain and via Dresden-Friedrichstadt are also included. On PS4 and Xbox One, fewer scheduled trips are available. Individual vehicles can still be used there in scenarios.

Morristown Line: commuter trains in New Jersey

The Morristown Line runs from New York Penn Station and Hoboken to Dover. The route of about 40 miles includes 22 stations. Trains include the electric Arrow III multiple unit and double-deck trains hauled by the ALP-46.

The ALP-45DP in the Deluxe Edition expands operations with a locomotive that can run under overhead wires as well as with a diesel engine. On PS4 and Xbox One, additional AI traffic layers in the timetable are removed. The ALP-46 remains playable there in scenarios.

On the English Riviera Line, players travel from Exeter to Plymouth and on the branch line to Paignton. The route of about 60 miles runs along the coast near Dawlish, among other places. Dovetail recreates 14 stations.

The fleet includes the GWR Class 802 for intercity services and the Class 150/2 for regional trains. The separately available CrossCountry Class 220 adds further services.

Random events and service disruptions

Random events mean that a journey doesn't always go the same way as before. Signals can be cleared later, temporary speed restrictions appear and AI trains behave differently.

Technical problems with your own train are also part of the tasks. Players may have to fix faults with lighting, doors or windscreen wipers, for example. Announcements and passenger sounds accompany the journey.

Ride along as a conductor

In Conductor Mode, players on suitable routes take on tasks in the train instead of in the driver's cab. They check tickets, handle luggage and release the train before departure.

Which services support this role depends on the chosen route and the available vehicles. On the Morristown Line and the Riviera Line, the service is part of the intended gameplay.

Create your own journeys and train formations

In Free Roam, you can put together journeys with available vehicles. The Scenario Planner links tasks into custom sequences, while the Formation Designer lets you create new train formations from existing carriages and locomotives.

The livery editor is used for custom vehicle designs. Via the Creators Club, matching creations can be shared and downloaded with other players.
