What is Train Sim World 7?

Train Sim World 7 is a railway simulation from Dovetail Games in which you drive trains from the driver's cab, complete timetables and explore routes in free play in your own way. At launch, three new core routes are included: the Airedale & Wharfedale Network in Yorkshire, the Nuremberg–Würzburg line and Florida Tri-Rail between Miami Airport and Boca Raton.

Alongside classic driving, TSW7 expands the series with Freight Hauler, live weather and simplified entry controls. Compatible Train Sim World add-ons from older releases can still be used, provided you own them. New players also get a free Starter Edition with the Training Center and basic tools.

Platforms

Confirmed native platforms are PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PC version is offered via Steam, Epic Games Store and Xbox for PC. TSW7 is also prepared for Steam Deck.

If you already own compatible add-ons from earlier Train Sim World versions, you can keep using them in TSW7. Availability depends on the add-on and store. Content that was only used via an expired subscription or a base game licence that is no longer included does not automatically become permanent ownership.

Gameplay

The focus is on realistic driving with different traction types, safety systems and route profiles. On the German core route Nürnberg–Würzburg you can drive, among others, DB BR 440, BR 442, ICE 1 and Vectron, while Yorkshire and South Florida depict their own commuter and freight services.

Freight Hauler partly frees freight from a fixed timetable: wagons are distributed along the route and must be assembled, shunted and delivered to their destination independently. Live weather brings real, location-based weather data into the simulation. In addition, there is Free Roam, conductor features, a photo mode and Creators Club for custom liveries, formations and scenarios.

On PC, TSW7 upgrades the technology with DirectX 12, a new Epic graphics tier, longer draw distances, better shadows, DLSS 4.5, DLAA and FSR 4. Safety systems such as AWS or PZB can be enabled by default if desired.

DLCs and expansions

Train Sim World 7 is designed as a platform for a large library of route and locomotive add-ons. Many compatible add-ons from older Train Sim World versions can still be used in TSW7 if they were purchased on the relevant account. New add-ons also appear directly for TSW7.

Dovetail plans to keep expanding the route network through its own content and third-party developers. Among the first projects announced after launch is the Tadami Line in Japan. Further routes and vehicles from Great Britain, Germany, the USA and other countries are also in development.

Game series

Train Sim World 7 is part of Dovetail Games' long-running Train Sim World series. Rather than cutting off each edition completely from earlier content, the series builds on a growing library of compatible routes and vehicles. TSW7 adopts this model and, for the first time, focuses further development fully on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
