What is Witchbrook?

Witchbrook is a magical life sim and social RPG by Chucklefish and Robotality. As an aspiring witch, you move to the coastal town of Mossport, attend Witchbrook College and combine studies, work, friendships, romances, exploration and designing your own cottage.

Magic is not a pure combat system here but part of everyday life: spells help with studying, work, nature and living alongside the residents of Mossport.

Gameplay

Everyday life is divided between lessons, side jobs, exploration, gathering, crafting, seasonal activities and social relationships. Knowledge is built up step by step. Books and lessons do not teach skills all at once, but through repeated learning.

Time speed can be adjusted. In the default configuration, one in-game year corresponds to roughly 40 real hours, according to a TGS interview. Players who focus on their studies can reach graduation comparatively early. Witchbrook does not end there, because advanced study and numerous activities remain available.

Witchbrook College and the Coven

At college, you learn spells and practical skills together with your coven. The group progresses as a class, so individual members do not fall permanently behind their own study progress. After graduating, your training can continue in advanced studies.

Chucklefish deliberately describes magic as a craft and everyday practice rather than an all-powerful superpower. Many spells simplify tasks, help other people or open up new possibilities in daily life.

Mossport as a simulated town

Mossport is meant to stay alive independently of the player. Residents have daily routines, vehicles move through the town, and the simulation keeps running in areas that are not currently on screen. Seasons, markets and local events add to everyday life.

Outside the college, you can explore forests, beaches, the Boardwalk and other districts, work, fish, gather or renovate the inherited cottage and the surrounding garden.

Friendships and romances

The residents of Mossport have their own daily routines, homes, interests and relationships. You can build friendships and get to know datable characters. In multiplayer, a romance is not reserved separately for each player character: according to a developer interview, a character can only enter a partnership with one person.
