What is Battlefield 2042?

Battlefield 2042 is an online first-person shooter by DICE. In large-scale battles, teams fight over strategic objectives using infantry, tanks, helicopters and jets. There is no classic single-player campaign.

The story is set in the near future, where resource shortages and environmental disasters strain relations between the world powers. This backdrop frames the multiplayer battles.

Specialists and classes

Since 2023, the specialists have been assigned to four classes: Assault, Engineer, Recon and Support. Engineers repair and destroy vehicles. Recon soldiers mark enemies and secure spawn points, Support provides ammo and revives fallen players. Assault soldiers focus on direct attacks.

Each class has fixed basic equipment and selected gadgets. Weapons can be used across class boundaries. Matching weapon types grant additional bonuses.
