What is Battlefield 6?
Battlefield 6 is a military first-person shooter by Battlefield Studios and Electronic Arts. At its core is All-Out Warfare, typical of the series: infantry, tanks, fighter jets and destructible environments collide, while squads take on different roles on the battlefield through classes, gadgets and vehicles.
The package includes the regular multiplayer, a full single-player campaign and the second generation of Battlefield Portal. Portal lets the community build their own experiences, rules and variants, while the official modes cover the classic Battlefield feel with Conquest, Breakthrough, Rush and other formats.

Gameplay
In multiplayer, Battlefield 6 supports up to 64 players and four core classes: Assault, Support, Engineer and Recon. Along with Conquest and Breakthrough, the offering includes Rush, King of the Hill and Supremacy, among others. The Kinesthetic Combat System expands movement and interaction, including leaning out of cover, dragging wounded teammates and resting weapons on surfaces.
A key part of the game is tactical destruction. Buildings and cover can be deliberately altered to create new routes or force enemies out of safe positions. Infantry and vehicle combat remain closely intertwined.
Battlefield Portal adds community experiences to the official modes. Creators can configure rules, map variants and their own game ideas; verified Portal experiences support regular progression.
The campaign is set in a world where the NATO alliance is under pressure. The naval raider unit Dagger 13 fights the private military organization Pax Armata. Locations range from the Sahara to Gibraltar and as far as New York.

DLCs and expansions
Battlefield 6 is being expanded with seasonal updates. Electronic Arts describes weapons, gadgets and maps as content that is free or earned in-game. Monetization focuses mainly on cosmetic items and premium tiers of the Battle Pass and Battlefield Pro.
Also part of the wider Battlefield ecosystem is Battlefield REDSEC, a standalone free-to-play offering with battle royale and other modes. Content and progression systems partly overlap with the seasonal structures of Battlefield 6, but REDSEC remains a separate product.

Long-term multiplayer systems and maps
After launch, Battlefield 6 will be expanded through larger seasonal content waves. The 2026 roadmap includes new maps, rankings, spectator and lobby features, vehicles and adjusted environments, among others. For Dec 8, 2026, the Frozen Aces update announces the return of Platoons and a server browser. These are planned long-term social and technical features, not features that are already available.
In the same phase, the maps Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City are set to receive reworked versions. Before that, Season 5 adds the maps Vegas Strip and Area 51 from Oct 13. Another smaller infantry map in the casino is planned to follow in November, according to the current plan.
The Gauntlet mode will be removed from Battlefield 6 when Season 5 starts on Oct 13, according to EA's announcement. It therefore should not be treated as a permanently guaranteed part of the multiplayer offering. All information about future season features is announced by the publisher and may change before release.

Battlefield REDSEC and the battle royale structure
Battlefield REDSEC is a standalone free-to-play offering in the Battlefield 6 ecosystem. It uses its own modes but draws on the shooter's larger seasonal development. With Rapid Royale, EA announces a faster battle royale variant for solo and trio teams from Season 5. Smaller player counts, more valuable loot and a constantly tightening danger zone define the concept.
Competitive offers with ranked and tournament formats are also announced for REDSEC. This section separates the free product from the paid full version, rather than presenting REDSEC as additional purchasable DLC for Battlefield 6.

Game Pass, Cloud and EA Play
Battlefield 6 will be added from Oct 13, 2026 to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, according to Microsoft. The announcement lists Xbox Series X|S, PC and Cloud as access options. Cloud gaming requires an eligible subscription and a supported region or device. The Xbox Game Pass Premium plan is not listed for this title in the official October list. This addition is a new subscription availability for the main game, which was already released in 2025, not a new native platform release.
EA Play is included with Game Pass Ultimate. Microsoft names additional in-game rewards for eligible EA Play members, including the Deployment Pack as well as the Season 5 EA Play Pack and seasonal perks. These bonus items are separate from access to the base game. For the PlayStation 5 version, the Microsoft subscription creates no additional access route. Battlefield REDSEC remains a separate free-to-play offer and should not be equated with the paid Battlefield 6 full version.

Class unlocks for purchase
Since Oct 13, 2026, Electronic Arts has offered paid Shortcut Kits for Battlefield 6 and REDSEC. They instantly unlock already existing class weapons, gadgets and vehicle progress. The Ultimate pack bundles four class kits.
EA explicitly points out that, despite the shortcut, additional class-specific content still has to be earned through play. There is no replacement for items players have previously unlocked themselves.
