What is Battlefield Hardline?

Battlefield Hardline is a first-person shooter by Visceral Games and Electronic Arts. The spin-off moves the large-scale battles typical of Battlefield from military conflicts into a world of police work, organized crime, heists and car chases.

The game combines a standalone campaign centered on Miami detective Nick Mendoza with team-based multiplayer matches. Vehicles, destructible environments and Frostbite 3 technology remain part of the gameplay.

Gameplay

In multiplayer, police officers and criminals face off against each other. Instead of classic frontlines, the focus is on, among other things, vault robberies, hostage rescues and vehicle-based car chases. In Heist mode, criminals try to secure loot while the police try to stop them. Hotwire makes vehicles and movement the decisive objective.

Teams use firearms, body armour, gadgets and response vehicles. The Hacker mode adds tactical support from an overview to the immediate firefights. The basic structure thus combines Battlefield-typical teamwork with a police thriller setting.

Campaign: The story of Nick Mendoza

The single-player story follows young Miami police officer Nick Mendoza and his colleague Khai Minh Dao. A case involving drug trafficking leads them into a web of corruption and betrayal. The presentation is modelled on a crime TV series with consecutive episodes.

Alongside shootouts, the campaign also features investigation and arrest situations. It remains playable on consoles even without the discontinued online services.

Game series

Visceral Games developed Battlefield Hardline for Electronic Arts. With its police-versus-criminals setting, the title differs from the military-focused main entries of the Battlefield series. The Frostbite 3 engine and the mix of vehicles, infantry combat and teamplay also connect it with the rest of the franchise.
