Gameplay

Each team consists of three characters. Active fighters can be swapped out or can call on assists from their teammates, so combos, pressure and defence revolve heavily around team composition. Air combos, super attacks and quick switches are at the core of the combat system.

Online mode and rollback netcode

Online, FighterZ offers ranked matches, lobbies and group modes, among others. Since 2024, the PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions have used rollback netcode. There is no crossplay between different platforms; according to Bandai Namco, some group modes remain limited to the older delay-based netcode system.
