What is Hello Neighbor?
Hello Neighbor is a stealth horror game about searching for a secret in the basement of the neighbor's house. Instead of fighting waves of monsters, you have to outwit a single pursuer, find routes through an unusually large house and use clues in the environment.
The game is played from a first-person perspective. The objects you can freely use and the neighbor's reactions turn every exploration into a small experiment: a seemingly safe shortcut can become a trap the next time you try.

Gameplay
You watch the house, look for unguarded entrances and try to reach rooms and the basement. Windows, doors, switches and movable objects open up several routes, but the neighbor patrols and reacts to noises and visible movement.
Often the fastest hiding spot isn't what matters most, but preparation: you can move objects, get around obstacles or choose a different route as soon as the direct path becomes too dangerous. The game combines hiding with environmental puzzles and physics interactions.

How does the neighbor react to your attempts?
The neighbor is meant to react to repeated behavior. If you always use the same window, for example, you may run into a bear trap there the next time you try. Cameras and changed patrol routes also make familiar paths harder.
This is the core of the tension: you get to know the rooms while the enemy can thwart your habits. The dynamic chase does not replace a fixed solution for the puzzles. You still need to observe, experiment and understand the environment.

Puzzles, objects and routes through the house
The house works as a walkable puzzle room. Crates can be stacked, objects thrown and doors opened with items you find. Some areas can only be reached once you have completed a sequence of tasks.
Objects are more than just decoration. They can help you climb, distract a pursuer or give access to other rooms. This alternates between quiet exploration, short escapes and longer puzzle sections.

Single-player and controls
Hello Neighbor is a single-player game. The main story is played alone and has no shared campaign co-op. It is played from a first-person perspective. On PC, keyboard and mouse as well as gamepads are supported.
Players who want to play together with friends will find the multiplayer approach in Secret Neighbor, a standalone game in the series. The original Hello Neighbor stays focused on the cat-and-mouse game between a player character and the neighbor.

Hello Neighbor on iPhone, iPad and Android
The mobile versions bring the stealth game to touchscreen devices. On iPhone and iPad, the app can be downloaded for free, and unlocking the full game is done via an in-app purchase. The Android version is also available on Google Play.
Apple lists iOS 13 or iPadOS 13 as the minimum version and supports newer devices accordingly. For smartphone controls, the controls were adapted to the touchscreen.

Languages and controls
The Nintendo Switch and PlayStation versions offer German on-screen text, among other things. On Steam, the supported interface languages are listed in the product overview. The game relies heavily on visual cues and objects for exploration rather than long dialogue sequences.
Available languages may vary by platform. It's therefore worth checking the store description before buying.

Game series
Hello Neighbor is the starting point of the horror series of the same name. Hello Neighbor: Hide and Seek tells a standalone prequel, while Hello Neighbor 2 continues the world around Raven Brooks in another adventure.
Secret Neighbor is aimed at groups and combines hide-and-seek with social multiplayer mechanics. The titles share the setting and recurring characters, but have different rules and should not be mistaken for expansions of the first game.
