Gameplay

Injustice 2 features side-view fights with individual attack combos and special abilities. Players control well-known DC characters, dodge attacks, block, counter and use particularly effective moves at the right moment.

Many arenas have interactive objects and different sections. Whether a character is built for range, speed or powerful single attacks has a clear impact on duels.

DLCs and expansions

Injustice 2 was expanded with numerous fighters sold separately. They include Red Hood, Starfire, Sub-Zero, Black Manta, Hellboy, Enchantress and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The three Fighter Packs bundle several extra characters.

The Legendary Edition includes the extra characters and several Premiere skins. These change how individual fighters look. Extra content should be distinguished from the Standard Edition, which contains the base game.

The story of Batman, Superman and Brainiac

The campaign follows the feuding alliance of DC heroes after Superman's authoritarian rule. Batman tries to prevent a new dictatorship. When Brainiac threatens Earth, former enemies must weigh whether and how they can work together.

The plot is driven forward by film scenes and playable encounters. Different characters move into the spotlight as the story goes on. The first part helps with understanding the main conflicts, but the game also explains its starting situation itself.

Equipment, stats and visual customization

Characters can receive new equipment pieces after battles. They change how heroes and villains look and, depending on the game mode, can also affect their abilities. This creates different builds for the same character.

If you use a fighter often, you can upgrade their gear and combine suitable parts. For fair duels, players can use match variants where individual skill matters more than accumulated equipment stats.

Playable DC characters

The roster includes Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, The Flash and other DC characters. Each character differs in special attacks, movement and reach. Enemies such as Brainiac also play a central role in the story.

The additional character packs expand the selection beyond the base game. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and characters from the Mortal Kombat universe bring their own fighting styles and broaden the possible matchups.

Local duels and online multiplayer

Injustice 2 lets two players fight each other on one device. The console versions support local duels, while online modes allow matches over the internet. On Xbox, the store also lists online groups of up to eight players.

The campaign and other single-player content work independently of the competitive multiplayer offering. The PlayStation version requires a PlayStation Plus membership for online matches.

Multiverse and single-player challenges

Alongside the campaign, Injustice 2 offers extra battles with changing conditions. In the Multiverse, players face opponents with special rules and can win equipment for their characters.

The combat system stays the same as in normal duels. However, the additional tasks shift the focus to specific characters, enemy effects or equipment goals.

Standard Edition and Legendary Edition

The Standard Edition contains the original fighting game. Players who want more characters can buy individual expansions or the Fighter Packs. There is also the Legendary Edition, which bundles the base game with a large selection of additional content.

The Legendary Edition was released on PS4 on Mar 28, 2018. It includes ten additional fighters and five premiere skins. This edition should not be confused with a standalone second game or a native PS5 release.

German language and controls

The PlayStation version is designed for local battles with up to two players. Online matches are optional, so the single-player story and direct duels are possible without a mandatory online opponent.
