What is Metro Redux?

Metro Redux bundles the reworked versions of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light. Both games follow Artyom's fight for survival in and above the tunnels of the Moscow Metro after a nuclear apocalypse, combining linear story sections with survival horror, exploration, stealth and tactical firefights.

The Redux versions were originally modernized with the 4A Engine and form the narrative prelude to the series before Metro Exodus and Metro 2039.

Tech update 2026

The free tech update for Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux has been available since Oct 22, 2026 on Steam, the Epic Games Store and GOG. The original games remain. The developers add 4K textures, more detailed geometry, improved materials and animations, and spatial audio.

On PC, alongside 4A TSR, NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR are available for upscaling. The improved lighting uses screen-space global illumination, not ray tracing. From Oct 29, console players can choose between 4K at 60 FPS and upscaled 4K at up to 120 FPS on compatible displays. PS5 Pro supports PSSR and Xbox Series X TSR.

Important for Microsoft Store players: When upgrading on Oct 29, existing save games cannot be carried over. Instead, chapter select is unlocked. Each section can be started with a preset loadout.
