Roots of Pacha

Roots of Pacha is a life and farming simulation set in a Stone Age settlement. Instead of optimizing a farm alone, you help the Pachan clan turn a new home into a lasting village. Farming, crafting, relationships and shared inventions all interlock.

Roots of Pacha was released for PC on April 25, 2023. The versions for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 followed on November 28, 2023. On Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, the game has been available since July 31, 2024.

Roots of Pacha has been released for PC with Windows, macOS or Linux, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. PS4 and PS5 as well as Xbox One and Xbox Series each have their own versions. A standalone Switch 2 version is not among the confirmed releases.

You split your days between farming, gathering, building, fishing and exploring the surroundings. The yields support not only your own household but the development of the entire clan. New opportunities arise with the residents and their ideas, not through a modern tech tree.

The free Sun-and-Moon update 1.3 expanded Roots of Pacha in 2025 with new regions, additional characters, animals, plants and content for later in the game. The separately available soundtrack includes the game's music. The additional areas are permanently part of the game world.

For the PC version, Steam lists at least a processor with 2 GHz, 4 GB RAM, a graphics card with 2 GB video memory and 1 GB free storage. The game listing states DirectX 10. The Steam client itself now requires Windows 10 or newer.

In the fields you cultivate plants that are at first gathered as wild varieties. Later you can process food and preserve it, for example with early forms of kitchen equipment. Vegetarian and vegan processing is also planned in the game.

In the wild you encounter animals that you can get to know, tame and integrate into village life. Riding and working with animals are just as much part of daily life as farming. Additional animal species came with the major expansion of the game world.

Technical progress comes through so-called ideas: the clan develops tools together, food processing methods, pottery and metalworking. This opens up new buildings and options for the settlement. The inventions mark the transition from a hunter-gatherer community to settled life.

Beyond the village, you explore forests, waters and cave systems. Fishing and gathering resources provide materials for the next steps of development. The Sun-and-Moon update permanently expanded the landscape and caves with additional areas.

The residents have their own wishes and life stories. Friendships, festivals and rituals give the village a social center. You can develop a romantic relationship and create your own home while the community keeps growing.

Roots of Pacha can be played alone or online with up to four people. In co-op, you share resources, expand the settlement and take part together in activities such as fishing and festivals. According to Steam, the PC version also supports cross-platform multiplayer.

The PC version offers German on-screen text and subtitles, plus English, French, Spanish and Japanese, among others. Steam partly lists controller support. Full German voice acting is not listed.
